Daytona 1000 Wheels
« on: September 04, 2023, 07:38:35 AM »
Hi All,

I am new to this forum and would like your help. My father in law asked me to help him with reviving his Daytona 1000, the bike was bought new back in the early nineties, was tuned and altered by a shop in italy and brought back home.

Now after letting it stand for almost 20 years, he would like to see it run and drive once again, here comes the need help part:

The bike was fitted with a (non standard) magnesium 6" wide rear wheel, this doesnt fit and gives the bike some strange driving properties so we would like to return it to stock (see foto attached of an example). Or change the wheel to a spoked wheel of the correct size.

Does anyone know if a spoked wheel in the correct diameter and 5" width excists or does one need to alter all sorts of parts?
Any ideas where the original white rear wheel could still be found?

Like to hear from you.

Harper’s shows stock but I’d contact Curtis. And not cheap but considering the limited run and age.

I waited many years to find a match for my front on my LM3.   Same wheels that came on 95 Sport 1100 here in States.

I never seen a 1993 Daytona in person, but those white Daytona wheels look identical to the 1994-1996 1100 Sport's wheels. I would assume that finding a set of 1994-1996 1100 Sport wheels would be easier than Daytona wheels. You would just need to get them painted or powder coated in white. I had a spare set of wheels powder coated, installed new bearings and tires, but then ended up not installing them due to getting too busy with life...... One day I will get around of using those wheels on one of my bikes...... Take a look at them and see if the design matches your wheels.

A six inch wheel would be pretty wide. I'd look for a Centauro / Daytona RS / 1100 sporti rear wheel. A 17" rear will give you more tire choices vs the stock daytona 18" wheel

Looking at the manual and as Turin pointed out, early bikes had an 18" rear wheel and this was changed to a 17" on later bikes, both 4.5" wide

In the Netherlands I'd talk to Teo Lamer and Stein Dinse

If it was me I'd go 17" but you'd need to see if there were any other changes to the hubs for the bevel box  and rear disc as well, I'd guess not, but it's no more than a guess.

Looks like later Daytonas (RS), Sporti and Centis all share the same 17" wheel (01630600)

I have a pair of Centauro wheels if anyone needs them. Probably not for the OP since I’m in USA.

There is a rear wheel for a 1994-1996 1100 Sport for sale on eBay, and it's located in your backyard.

That should fit. Contact the seller (Teo Lamers). He may have one in white. Very trustworthy seller.
