lower shock mount bolt
« on: November 12, 2023, 10:22:58 PM »
The lower shock mount 12555201 on my 73 Eldorado,  is the one that threads into the final drive housing the same as the opposite side on the L/H swing arm, Parts manual is not very descriptive for this and do these have a history of breaking, I cant find much info about them , Im about to set off on a couple of thousand kilometre trip that involves a fair amount of Australian unsealed back roads and wondered if I should acquire a spare to take with me. Thanks Ray

Never heard of breakage.  If you're unlucky, any rural handyman with a lathe could fabricate a replacement as long as he can cut metric threads.  Trivial task.

Some would fabricate a stiffener starting with an axel washer and a strap what goes to a the stud and incorporates a washer to hold on the shock. A crooked dog bone sort off bracket.I never made one and I used to ride my loops in some gnarly stuff. I just never got around to doing it.

All four shock studs are the same - top, bottom, left, right. Never heard of one breaking.
