New dirt bike
« on: December 12, 2023, 09:43:38 PM »
This ‘71 B50 MX fell into my trailer today.  Supposedly has a factory light kit and a title, but I haven’t seen them yet. That’s how we buy bikes in small towns. I just want to hear it run.

You’ll like it, Ben.  You may find it to be a little buzzier than the Jupiter, but still a good old big single.

A very good friend in the next town built a cafe-ish bike out of a B50 like that around 90.  He sold it about 2000, then was thrilled to recently be able to buy it back in the same as-sold condition with only a few miles ridden since he sold it.

Nice score, Ben! IIRC that chassis was also used for the short lived Triumph TR5T. If it's anything like the 440 Victor I once owned, it will shake the fillings right out of your teeth...

This one's right up the road Ben. I see a sub-set collection in the making

500 MX. I’m not sure about the cc’s or difference from the 441 Victor. I’m going to start surfing and learn more about it. it was bought new by my friend and his father and set up for short track racing. Probably hasn’t run in 40 years. It kicks through fairly easily which is good in that it isn’t seized, but doesn’t bode well for compression. I have a Guzzi and two Laverdas to sort through first and then I’ll start a thread.

That is a really cool bike. I wonder if you could make it a very cool vintage trials bike ?  The 67 Victor in Boston is selling from a local shop, maybe a little pricey?
Nice bike!!

I was just trying to get Ben going by pointing out the bike in Boston. But, he's all business today and not taking the bait.

Wow, imagine flying over a whooped-out section of track on that suspension. Those were the days of iron men.

Only a couple of years later in '73, Honda came out with their 125 Elsinore and the Brits and their bikes became instantly ancient and obsolete. I rode a Triumph of a similar vintage as I recall back in '74 when I got my '74 Elsinore, and I recall almost hitting the broad-side of a barn when I came in "hot" and forgot about the right-shift/left-brake.

Still, congrats on that great example, I'm sure it will be a blast to ride!

Ok it’s on Steve.  Watch your back… That BSA at Madhouse is clean though. I’m not sure I need one Brit single let alone two. I did pick up the title, a factory shop manual, a box of parts and a BSA 650 front wheel today.
