Using OBDStar on a 2025 V85
« on: May 14, 2026, 10:57:03 AM »
I recently received a OBDSTAR I Scan Guzzi to reset the service wrench icon among other things. . After downloading all the software I plug it it to the bike, select V85tt/Travel select special functions and only tire pressure comes up, no service wrench reset. Same if I select V85tt/Travel USA. It does show up if I select Stelvio or V100. Anyone else have this scanner and tried to use it on a newer V85?

OK, I solved the problem. You can’t make any changes to the bikes unless you are connected to the internet. My garage is too far from my signal to receive it. By moving the bikes to the back door I was able to connect to the net and reset the service wrenches on the V85 and V100. They each have a different menus to get to service wrench reset.
Considering the extensive capability of this device, seems pretty klugey to have to connect to internet plus have different menus to navigate to do the same thing but thats how its done now. Maybe changes will be coming in the future.

I suspect this may be more common than we know, and will perhaps become even more common in the future.

A couple years ago I bought an exercise stepper from MaxTrainer.  It was one of the more expensive models.  I did not know that you had to have internet access for it to work.  Apparently this was considered a feature rather than a bug.  Sure enough, if I had done a better job of reading the advertising, I would have known this.

I contacted them and requested my money back which they did quickly.  When the representative asked why i did not like the stepper I replied "If I lose internet access it becomes a boat anchor!  Imagine owning a washing machine that would not function if the internet went down!"  The representative said "Yeah, that does make a lot of sense!"

Lesson learned, read more, don't assume things won't be overly complex.

I also have the OBDStar and a '25 V85TT. While connected to the internet these are the steps I follow when resetting my service indicator:

'13 BMW K1600GT
'25 Moto Guzzi V85TT

My V100 had reached its first service and this video prompted me to consider the OBDstar. Fast forward to the last few minutes and note the steps to reset the service wrench are slightly different than for the V85. This tool might have been handy for diagnosing issues on the road but without a smart phone to act as a hot spot, not likely.

Sadly the Internet connection thing is becoming more common especially on things that don't need it. I believe bambu labs tried to make their 3d printers require every file to go through their servers before it would allow you to print.

Well that is interesting that it requires an internet connection to do the reset. Thanks for that tip!
