V85TT fork seal
« on: April 21, 2024, 06:41:12 AM »
The right fork seal is leaking on my '21 Centenario E5. I've tried a fork seal doctor thing and that didn't help. Anyways, I know there's dampening/rebound adjusters on that fork and wondering if anyone has done one with normal tools yet? I've done many V11 variants but not sure if this one will be as straight forward. I have a service manual and they seem to go out of their way to outline the complexity of the right fork. Any tips or warnings from those in the know? I really hate to take it 2 hours one way to a dealer for this.

Last year I took both of the forks apart on my 22 V85tt, so I could install aftermarket cartridges. I don't remember the need of any special tools, other than normal fork disassembly tools, to get it to the point where the seals can be replaced. The fork tools can be bought cheap on Amazon or Ebay.

It appears to me you can leave cartridge connected to cap, then just remove bolt that attaches it on bottom. Remove as a unit. Change seals & replace unit & fill. 2 different quantity oils L & R.

I'll be fixing the fork seal on Wednesday and for the life of me I cannot find the oil capacities anywhere. Does anyone know how much oil I'll need to get?

Thanks,
Luap

According to the service manual the right leg takes 467cc which should place the level 129mm below the top of the tube fully compressed with the spring removed.

386 for LH, so 1 L should work. Good Luck
