2013 California 1400 Security Code Overwrite
« on: May 24, 2024, 03:43:59 PM »
Dear All

My security code transponder got damaged and I cannot start my bike. I know there is an option to overwrite the code, by, according to the manual, pressing down the Menu button. This should get me to the configuration menu, where one option is “change code”. However I never get to that configuration menu. Pressing down the menu button does not do anything for me.
Sorry if my question is trivial and maybe the answer is obvious, but it’s not obvious to me.
What am I missing or doing wrong???
Many thanks, Roy

First , did you or a previous owner actually have a code ? You obviously won't be able to overwrite it without having the original (if it was installed) , I believe this
has been covered on the "Guzzitech" site a number of times . There's one place on earth that offers this service and it's in Europe and requires the ECU . Good luck !  Peter

Hi Peter - thanks - I am the original owner and do have the code. My problem is that I can’t even get to the menu where it offers the option to change the code…

I disconnected the battery in the hope it help,  but after reconnecting still have the same problem….

Any ideas why I can’t get to the so called “configuration menu “?

Would be much appreciated,

Thanks

Roy

Maybe these guys cab help long distance.  https://powersportsoutlet.com/index.php?route=common/home

Just had my Cal 1400T hooked up for computer analysis.  I had ghost codes shutting the engine down into limp mode on a number of occasions.  Irritating at most.  Seems that when the battery was replaced, there were some codes in the ecu.
From the Deep Deep South out in left field.  There are no stupid questions.  There are however stupid people asking questions.  🤣, this includes me.  😉 Hawaii.

Why do you need to overwrite the code? You don't need to change the code if you are the original owner with the code. You need to enter it to start the bike if the immobiliser is active. Disconnect the antenna, then when you switch the key on, you will be asked to enter the code to allow the bike to start. That will allow you to ride and until you can get it replaced.

Thanks both for good help and advice. I had my reserve transponder sent to me and the bike is running fine now.  But for next time I will heed your suggestions, definitely!
Cheers, Roy
