Now, that was easy!
« on: June 09, 2024, 12:53:14 PM »
I removed the front wheel from my V9 Roamer today to replace the front tire. It could not be any simpler. Jack up bike and make sure it is secure. Rubber beauty(?) plug came out easily, slacken two pinch bolts using a 5 mm hex key, unscrew the axle using a 14 mm 1/2" hex socket, remove wheel. Old tire came off easily, new one fitted, took some time for it to hold air, but once it had sealed it sat perfectly on the beads. Balance wheel, refit by reverse procedure. Even getting the disk inside the brake pads was completely unproblematic. During my 44 years of riding, and the same number of bikes owned, I have never had a front wheel remotely as easy to remove and fit. Contrary to the rear wheel, which was a PITA due to the rubber cushions not wanting to play along.

1990 XT600Z
2001 NT650V in bits

...... Contrary to the rear wheel, which was a PITA due to the rubber cushions not wanting to play along.

I used a tiny tack of super glue (cynoacrylate) to keep the rubber blocks honest until they were in position.

Small enough that the glue bond fails as soon as you ride it
