MGS-01
« on: May 29, 2024, 12:21:48 AM »
One has just come up for sale. Just wondering what they might be worth????? Not a "low km" Garage Queen", but in tidy condition. Any recent sales history of this model?

The number I usually see is around $50K but those were new or low mileage bikes.

They made les that 150 if I recall correctly. 50-60K seemed like the going rate (USD). I don't want to know how much one of those would go for in New Zealand.

There was one for sale a number of years ago that had been raced and chucked at the ground fairly hard IIRC in NZ so I'd want to go physically look at it before shelling over any money. 131 total is the best info I have on the production run the exhaust supplier was changed on some of the latter built bikes (likely past no 100).

When in Mandello del Lario in 2022, I was in the really good shop on the corner and spied a set of MGS bodywork WAY….. up high.
I asked and the price was €3,000
Would be nice to have in conjunction with a donor Griso.

If that's for painted and stickered up that's pretty reasonable IMO, shipping would be a pain bulky and fragile.

I’d get over that Muzz.
Would not want it too pretty initially if building a project bike. It was bare bones, store mannequin white.

Thats sounds like it's a fibre glass replica in gel coat white, the real deals are carbon fibre.

Back in the day when the MGS-01 was available (so long ago now), I really thought I wanted one although I had never seen anything but pictures of it.  My trusty dealer and Guzzi parts supplier, Jim Figgins, accepted an order from me.  Another gent from Chicago had already spoken for one so, with mine, Jim had two on order. He received the first bike that went to Chicago but my bike never turned up and my order was cancelled after a long wait , sigh.

Years later. I tasted some sour grapes when I made a guided tour of the Guzzi factory museum in Mandello del lario where they had an MGS-01 on display and available for me to sit on.  In reality, it was just too small for me.  I'm 6-2 and it felt like a pocket-bike toy to my frame crouched on the seat with my knees almost touching my chin!

Yeah, yeah, I know.  If I had received the bike I ordered from Jim, I would have enjoyed it - if for nothing more than looking at it.  I could have flipped out of it for a profit too. But, I wanted the MGS-01 for making it road-legal and riding it.

Oh well. I'm well past it all now.

My late-model Griso SE works well for me nowadays.

Indeed.  You think you could have flipped it for a profit, but we will never know.
