Delinking V50 - rear master choices?
« on: May 30, 2024, 01:35:17 PM »
After a month of travel I'm digging into this again. The 15mm rear MC will be too hard for the single F05 so I'm looking at alternatives and as usual info for the small twins is scarce. Are there any similarly structured MCs (i.e. have the built in pivot) in 10mm or 11mm that I can adapt to the V50 with a mounting bracket?

My other idea was to extend the pivoting arm so I got more leverage from the stock 15mm. If I remember my high school physics, doubling the arm length should give me an equivalent of doubling the ratio, right? Currently it's 8:1, and a 16:1 is about the minimum according to Guzziology.

thanks,
jim

I kinda liked the linked brakes on a '78 V50 I had way back when.  The bike sort of "squatted" under braking, no front-end dive, made it easier to rip up and down the tight twisties.

I went through similar with my LM2 when I de-linked it

I used a 15mm Brembo RCS M/C on the front which works great and at the rear I found a M/C of the same design as the original but with a smaller bore as used on many Italian bikes of the era (Ducati, Laverda). IIRC it's a 12mm rather than 15mm.

The only issue is that it was made to be fitted facing the other direction so I had to make some minor modifications for it to fit: swap the counterbore to the other side etc. but it works perfectly.

The Guzzi Linked brakes are a great idea IMHO

Trying to adapt something a little different, intended for a Ducati, and only $16.38 new, might be worth a gamble:

Search for its title, on ebay: "For Ducati Monster 620 695 696 750 1100 1200 Rear Brake Master Cylinder Pump New"

Since Ducatis do not have integral brakes, this is probably a small-diameter cylinder. It comes with a reservoir.

By the way, I like integral brakes and wouldn't recommend disintegration. But you're not asking.

Thanks all for the ideas and examples. The upcoming week is supposed to be stellar weather so I'll just assemble it stock and see what happens. Maybe it's good enough to keep it that way until winter.....
