A question for the Convert owners
« on: July 16, 2024, 06:16:25 AM »
What are the deflectors for, their purpose? Why just on Converts? Are they detrimental to engine cooling? Inquiring, but ignorant, minds want to know...

Since Convert horns are mounted on the crashbar,I always assumed they were just a styling exercise to cover them up.

IIRC, my G5 had them as well. Not detrimental to engine cooling. I've removed them on every Convert I've owned.

I’m sure they were added to stabilize things at about 175mph… :whip2:

I found them handsome, but not handy…(Red/Green content)….

I thought they looked better with the shorter original fork internals that kept it lower to the ground, but without a monster Windjammer on there….Gave it a ‘hefty’ front end. The later two part G5 internals raised the front a few inches and left them hanging in the breeze and not looking connected to the rest of the design

Id suggest it’s the beginning of a design addition that later showed up on the front fairing on a LeMan 3…diagonal line pointing downward toward the front wheel

Just me, ymmv

I always thought they were designed in the Mandello wind tunnel, and provided some type of benefit aerodynamically. I have noticed on my convert, that they help reduce "buffeting" behind the big National Cycle  plexifairing.

When I asked many years ago, I was told it was to help with high speed stability.

Interesting. This is what I was wondering about, and why I posted-- there had to be some reason that Guzzi put them on in the first place... Thanks for posting.

I have a few pairs in the collection --basically take offs from other Converts.

As a side note I also have a pair from the factory (really early) I that are stamped metal.

I've moved a few times so as to which box there in is the great mystery.

Yep, we thought it was a marketing ploy. Maybe they did use the wind tunnel to develop them, I don’t know
