Norge fork disassembly
« on: September 24, 2024, 06:37:38 PM »
When loosening the bolt at the bottom of the fork that the internal damper assembly is attached to, is it a smart idea to loosen it while the top cap is still mostly fully installed and the tubes are still clamped in the triple-clamps, or is it easy enough to loosen with the forks on the bench? I'm thinking ahead and trying to figure out if it will be easier to hold the slider when the fork is mounted, or on the bench (or in a vice, like the manual says). I guess loosening when still on the bike introduces risk of spewing oil out the bottom, but I suppose I could catch that in a pan.

Looking forward to beefing these up with a spring & oil change once I get the tubes straightened. The axle was a bee-otch to pound out because it was bent! I will also do a thorough cleaning & inspection of the sliders to look for any hints of deformation or cracking.

Yes, you can do it like that but oil will come squirting out. I usually take them out and dump oil out 1st. Nothing wrong with what you going to do at all. Easier to brake it loose.
