All I can think of of is the speed sensor - on the rear caliper. It has been reported as a point failure on the CARC bikes, moisture getting into the wires where they join the boot - fixable with something like liquid tape there. Also check that the connector pins & plugs are bright, clean & vaselined. If you do have a spare sensor lying around (unlikely), you could try plugging that one in instead & seeing if it fixes the problem. If the bike is still under warranty, you might be able to get the shop to do it.

I've had the opposite problem a couple of times--reads 70-80 mph when I'm going 40. Mine corrects itself when I turn off the ignition, fortunately.

The check engine light has come on a couple of times, but after hooking up Guzzidiag, it has gone out. The speedo just sweeps and re-sets properly on startup after the errant reading.

Rich A -- apologies, I didn't state my question properly.  Is your MI light is ON at the same time your speedometer is acting up?  If so I have a candidate cause.  Otherwise I don't.

No MI light when speedo was +40 mph. Still a little disconcerting.

they wanted to give me a 50 pecent  discount
but it is still high.at the end i went to a specialist that works with speedo' he disassemble it  eseven though it is a close

AND IT WORKS  the niddle is on the spot .i hope  it will work fine with no other problemes in the future0.thanks shai

Very WELL DONE. You have someone close who works on the inside of speedos? Don't lose his address, and keep on his good side.

Tom A -- I live in Southern California.  When I park my V7 III, I put a small towel over the electronic speedometer to protect it from the sun.  I started doing this with my Norge after reading about others having expensive instrument problems.  Thanks for sharing your solution.

This happened with my tach a couple of times recently.
The drive in the instruments is a stepper motor, it doesn't have any reference point until you turn the ignition off then back on again when it drives to top of scale.

Hello,

I had the same problem in my v7 Stone III and after reading all i was already prepared to disassemble the console but i was worried about losing its tightness so i tried first just hitting. (not proud of saying that when i have a master degree in Mechanical Engineering)
I found that hits in the appropiate position and strength were moving the niddle back to the zero and it stays. I did it with the console still mounted on the bike without removing any screw or part. In my case were hitting in the right side no very strong just with the soft part of the palm of my hand.  So far i have driven a couple of times and the problem did´t come again. I´ll keep you posted if it comes back out of the range.

Good luck
