V85 dreaming
« on: November 01, 2024, 09:16:41 AM »
Wednesday I got the chance to test ride both the V100 and the new V85 Strada( thank you Enzo Miller at Cadre's). Loved both bikes and was really impressed with the V85( the V100 is totally amazing). The riding position just doesn't suit me. Moto Guzzi please put the excellent V85 drive line in a sporty road chassis. Please!   JohnB

I have a V100 and found the riding ergos to be problematic as well. Handlebar risers with adjustable setback made a big difference. I may also lower the pegs a bit, cornering clearance is not an issue, the bike is far more capable than the rider.

I think my post was a little confusing. At 5'9" I find the V100 ergonomics just about perfect. The V85 is a little tall and feels dirt bike like. The V100 most likely will be my next bike. I was very impressed with how good the simple air cooled V85 is.

I also hoped that they would put the V85 guts in a sport standard chassis.  But, I don't think they will be bringing out any new air-cooled bikes now that the water-cooled V100 drivetrain is here.  I would like to see the V100 engine in a bike with a flat seat like some of the V7 models that you can slide back and forth on.  In fact, a stripped down V100 powered V7 might be a lot of fun.
I love the V85 but at 5'9" and 66 yo, it became too tall for my comfort.

Guzzi offers a 1” lower seat for the V85 and the forks are easily raised with increments already marked on the fork stanchions. With a shorter shock you should be able to lower seat height by 2”.

I'm sure the height issue could be easily fixed. Could a shorter flatter handlebar be used without interfering with the windscreen?  Something to make it less dirt bike feels? I know how tough the V85 platform is. I have a riding mate that absolutely gives his hell, never any issues. 😁

I wanted the V85 in a lower chassis. I wanted more power that was in the V7. I traded in my 2016 Eldorado and bought a BMW R12. Solver my problem.

I got my Strada 3 days ago with the low comfort seat already fitted. First thing I did was remove the 4 seat pads at the front for a few more mm.  I've already got a shorter shock ready to go on but need the center stand fitting first, shorter by 25mm, so plan to drop the front 20mm. For reference I'm 5' 6" with 28" inner leg. It's tip toe but manageable at present.
