ECU flash, red triangle?
« on: October 19, 2024, 01:49:32 PM »
2006 Breva 1100.
it started hesitating and what I thought was starving for fuel around 4000 rpm, and sometimes would die at idle.  it will throttle through the hesitation and run up to 7000 with a slight hesitation,  4000 is the worst.
changed out the fuel filter, it was pretty dirty, but it wasn't stopped up.

sock looked good, there wasn't any noticeable amount of trash in the gas when I drained it.
put fresh gas back in the tank, fired it up and went for a ride.  Seemed fine for the first few minutes, then I noticed hesitation at 4000, and it died at a stop.  started right up and proceeded back to the house.  It died again at a light while ideling, but started right up.
running fine then it died, and I got the red triangle and the ECU flash on the screen,  no crank, no sweep, just dead.
I disconnected the battery, waited a few minutes, recoonected battery, it fired up and I drove it home.  no red triangle or ECU flash.

I am at a loss.

about 60k miles, original owner, has been rock solid reliable.
I put a new alternator belt on about 500 miles ago, fairly new plugs, air filter seems good.
it has 1200 program for pinging, that was about 15 years ago, been running fine.

I rarely run ethanol gas,

the screen is very faint, so will need it get darker before I can read the screen for error codes, but most likely none since I disconnected the battery.

Can you go into Diagnostics to check what the bad code is?   Some are ECU error codes and some are dashboard  Errors.  that might give you a clue to what is going on for how to proceed.

If you got the ECU disconnect I would check the ground wire & both pin connectors on ECU Clean w/deOxit or something good. I hope you put a new metal filter in it. I would find someone w/software to check it out.

Check the crank sensor

My old B1100 had a fit and would run but not idle.

The meter readings on the sensor were a bit out if whack IIRC,  but it was definitely swollen when I pulled it.

An automotive pattern part (10th cot of guzzi) returned normal service

I don't see any codes triggered on the dash.
the screen is very faint, but I don't see any
I checked ECU
A not filled, M have all x's

and dash errors
none of ACT were indicated.

wouldn't a defective crank sensor throw a code?

yes I put a metal fuel filter, Wix with high pressure clamps and wired the slot so it couldn't back off

positive cable was loose at the battery, tightened it up.  took for a ride today, 30miles round trip, no ECU errors.

Still hesitates around 4k rpm?
Rani t down till the light came on and filled it up with non ethanol premium, I hope its just bad gas, time will tell
