I never thought much about RE. I first saw the new bikes in 2007. They looked okay, the test ride was horrendous.

The new bikes look like quality machines.

I have a couple of friends that are big KTM fans.  They're watching this closely, hoping to pick up another, as the prices (hopefully) drop.

Buy, or sell?

For me, neither! I'll watch from a distance and see where the dust settles. Then make a decision from there.

I remember in 09 the car companies were dumping stuff for up to 50% off. That might get me to try one. But spare parts would probably stop me.

That is when I bought my '08 GMC Sierra 2500 HD for 1990 prices.  Still own it.

I wish I would have bought a Pontiac Solstice GXP at the same time.

Have friends that owned several KTM’s between them (and still do).  Mostly the big ADV’s. 990’s and 1200+cc’s. All liked them and I don’t remember any specific concerns they had with the marque.

I did ride with a buddy once who was on a brand new KTM 690 he planned to motard. From SLC to Reno. Bike ran great on the way there. On the way back refused to run. He ended up bringing it back in a small U-Haul panel van. I don’t know if the dealership covered the U-Haul but they fixed the bike quickly. Something with a pinched fuel line or defective fuel filter.

Hope the company pulls through.

Thanks for posting.  I sent your story to a friend who has bought several bikes at EuroSport Asheville and praises them to the hilt.

He is a former Moto Guzzi rider who gave up and switched to BMW's & KTM's.

He replied that he is having dinner at the Berliner Kindl tonight and has often stayed at Big Lynn Lodge when buying a bike at EuroSport Asheville.

If KTM has a fire sale the way Buell did in 2011, I could see my way to getting involved with one, but retail...no thank you. My Moto Guzzi are enough of an orphan marque and they are still in business .

Thanks as well! Yeah, ESA is one of the good'uns--like Chelsea Lahmers' Moto Richmond, Enzo's Cadre Cycle, and Jim Hamlin's Hamlin Cycles, among others.

Regardless if they survive or not, I will never buy a KTM.  I really wanted a 690 however I noticed several mechanic specials around me for sale when I was looking.  I started looking into it and found the 790 cam fiasco.  There is only one other broken motorcycle that I found several examples of for sale it was a Suzuki Boulevard with bad head gaskets.  Until they focus on reliability and actually honor warranties, they can go bankrupt for all I care.

WOW!

That seems unimaginable considering that the bike had been reliable up to that point.
