Stelvio rear brake issue
« on: April 17, 2025, 08:56:41 AM »
The 14 I just bought gradually lost rear braking. The po says this has been a problem on Stelvios and he couldn’t figure what caused it so he bled the brakes periodically.Has anyone heard of or dealt with this?On my old Stelvio it never happened in 93000 miles. This bike has 68000.

I know nothing about your Stelvio, but this has worked on other Guzzis and other bikes that have a similar problem. It's non invasive and costs nothing. Hang a weight on the pedal overnight and see what happens. Sometimes, I have even tied a front lever back with a zip tie, on ones that seem to collect air. I never do this without checking for other problems first, but as a last resort.

Hi,

I had a Breva 1100 and would put money on the master cylinder. I had a different issue on the Breva in that the rear brake was binding and on testing the master cylinder seemed o.k. and I kept looking at the rear brake, put new seals into the caliper....

Eventually I bought a 2. hand master cylinder and the problem was gone. There were plenty on Ebay at good prices.

I suppose your new bike has ABS. I don't have any experience, of course, but this thread has ideas that could be relevant, I suppose:

Maybe you could salvage the brake system from your old Stelvio and use it!

I had this issue on my 2013 Stelvio. I would have to bleed the rear brake periodically in order to have it function. Eventually it lost pressure altogether at the ABS pump. I joyfully removed the Chinese junk ABS module made by the German company ATE and scrapped it. Connected the front and rear brakes directly to their master cylinders and all has been well since. The ABS light stayed on all the time so I sent the instrument cluster overseas to have the light extinguished permanently.
