Who's buying this Convert sidecar rig?
« on: May 23, 2025, 09:40:54 AM »
I'm tempted by this but it's all the way on the other side of the country and shipping would kill the deal. Doesn't look like a candidate for a fly and ride

Whew, that's rough. "It will not go out of neutral so I do not know if the motor will turn over or not".  Seller obviously knows nothing about Converts...

Yea he has two sidecar bikes up for sale. Seems like maybe he acquired an estate or something.

To be fair I don't know much about converts but I've owned a ton of bikes so I'm confident I could get it going. Just not sure I could get it going quickly enough to ride it a few thousand miles home.

Yeah, its on FP MP as well. This guy musta got ahold of some greybeard's barn of stuff after the old guy passed on. Regularly posts stuff like this, with Armor All-ed tyres and the same driveway and tree background. BSAs, Triumphs, Guzzis, even an Ariel 4 square are among the ones I have seen. About 15 mins down the road from me. Been tempted by some of them, but trying to limit for space and sanity's sake to 3 bikes. The last few I remember were non running projects, maybe all the good ones are gone.

That rig looks a bit sketchy. The mounts are not very good. Attaching the front upper mount to the crash bar like that is not a good idea. I dont think the other mounts are much better. deffinitely not a candidate for a "fly and ride" !

Did all the clean up work but couldn't air up the rear tire? Yeah, I know, just something else to fix.

I pretty much only buy non running projects. My recent V7 purchase is the first bike I've bought in years that ran haha.

If it was close, I'd go look at it or the BMW sidecar he has up.

I was watching, someone got a deal! I'd imagine the sidecar alone is probably worth that. Of course the listing did say it spent years outside, in Florida, so maybe it looks worse in person. Either way, I would have taken that gamble if it wasn't thousands of miles away. I still considered it as I'd guess the shipping would probably be around a grand (maybe more).

That’s a lot of work. Haven’t seen 2 into one exhaust on any Guzzi before, and I’ve been to 20 something rallies. Comparing cost/ time to get it structurally sound and running vs parting it, would be a decision. With a lot of work and $ it would be a cool rig. I’ve seen very few Convert sidecar rigs.
