Broke down while riding
« on: July 19, 2025, 08:52:36 PM »
HELP It's a 2007 Nevada. Bike quit firing while cruising down the road. Left me stranded. 30A 15A and 3A fuses look fine. What else could it be? Posting this before I got it home.

Do the lights come on? If not:
  • Check that your terminals at the battery are tight, as well as the ground terminal at the engine/frame (bike dependent).

Otherwise:
  • Is your kickstand switch working properly?
  • Have gas in the tank?

I am also thinking kick stand switch. Zip tie it in the up position.
Also I have hit the kill switch by accident...embarras sing but it happens.

Let us know the outcome..it's how we learn!!!!

Fuel pump could have died. The line inside the tank could have cracked or slid off the pump. Hard to diagnose things remotely.

The bike is getting spark but the injectors are not spraying fuel. Multimetered the injectors and they are getting volts. The fuel pump is spinning up and seems to be pumping as I can hear a trickling sound inside the tank, which I think is unusual. I think it might be the line inside the tank slid off or is cracked. Going to have to pull the tank I guess to find out. Got almost a full tank of gas so should be fun... No idea on how to get the tank off either.

I think you must be right in suspecting the fuel line.
Use a syphon to empty the fuel into a plastic container where you can transfer to another bike/car.
Hopefully the hose has just slipped off.
There is likely to be a fling under the tank which you have to remove
The injector pressure will be around 40-45 psi.

Keep us posted to what you find with a picture.
I had no idea the Nevada was still produced in 2007 anyone else have one of these?

Various Guzzi models are quite famous for the fuel line pulling off of the fuel pump.  Pump runs but just spins fuel inside the tank.  Symptoms are as you describe.  Get proper clamps to keep the hose in place.  Others will chime in with clamp advice.

Just a suggestion - when you have the tank off, you may wish to avoid turning the key on and touching the starter button - it could result in a spray of fuel on you.

Please don't ask how i know this.
That's the combustion chamber of the turbo shaft. It is supposed to be on fire. You just don't usually see it but the case and fairing fell off.

Thank you so much everyone for your replies and suggestions. I got her running. The line leading to the fuel filter from the pump came off. Michaell32 was right on the money! Thank you so much!

Good thing this happened actually because I think the fuel filter is toast.

I bought a box of single-ear (Oetiker/Mikalor/cheapo) clamps/clips and pliers, specifically for redoing these internal lines, plus brake reservoir hoses.
I grabbed mine from AliXpress though I'm sure the big River has them too. FeeBay has sets for under £14.
Which reminds me that I've recently run out of the most used size.
BTW, fresh internal fuel line is relatively expensive: constant immersion E10 resistant.

I suggest also that you replace the fuel hose inside the tank. They are known to go bad-  ( ask me how I know ).

Ethanol gas is tough on submerged rubber and plastic parts.

Hoses and such looked brand new. I run non-ethanol gas only.

Flex them drastically and look for cracking. They do have a limited lifespan and although mine looked good (on a '08 Breva), it's prudent to change them whilst doing the filter. I'm a penny-pincher and still done it! Better safe..
Your bike though.

[My BMW K100 broke down from the very same problem - I didn't enjoy a coast down a twisty hill for a mile, followed by a 1/4mile push to the nearest car showroom forecourt, where I felt it might be safe overnight. Too long ago, so can't I remember the details on how I got it back the 20 odd miles home. That was well before ethanol diluted our petrol. ]

I went ahead and flexed them drastically as I was trying to get them out of the tank and such. No cracks. I suspect the previous owner replaced them before I owned the bike luckly. Thank you for the recommendation though. It is a good idea to replace them during each filter change.
