Iowa MG Rally??
« on: June 16, 2025, 05:18:07 AM »
I’m thinking of riding up to the Iowa rally in July, then heading up to Wisconsin (Green Bay) to visit my two sons.  I can’t go to the Wisconsin Guzzi rally because it’s the same days as The Guzzi’s in the Blueridge  that I’m going to.

Anybody here riding to the Iowa rally?  I’d be tenting it if I go unless there are any nice rv campgrounds kind of near rally site?  I notice the city park in Elkader does not take reservations and I’d hate to haul my little toy hauler camper all the way up there just to not be able to get a site.  Hmmmm???  Think Il lean toward tenting.

The city park the rally is held in is an RV camp. The RV's are by the cattle buildings and main hall. There will be RV's there. A lot of older Guzzi riders now come in a RV. Mostly cause they don't want to crawl in a tent anymore or can't do it anymore. 1st rally I went to as a state Rep so I died my beard red, white and green. Have Fun Bob

If the RV sites are full you can still use your RV in a camp site or the open field you just won’t have hookups. The Elkader rally is really great, the town people all enjoy the Guzzi crowd and the food excellent.
There’s a nice city swimming pool on the site too.

Bob, take the rv! It's a hotter than hell ride out there, but great riding along the river when there. Save your tires for fun roads.

I’m a cheapskate (Guzzi content) so Il probably ride my bike up there and tent it.  Thats cheaper!

We always stay at the Franklin Hotel in Strawberry Point - about 15 miles away.

Great rally.

The Franklin Hotel is very nice.  I'm kind of partial, since that is my bride's last name though.  Tent camping at the park is very good as well.  Do they still provide free fire wood?  It's been (ahem) a decade or so since I have been able to attend.  But we were regulars for a while.  And some of the mornings were quite brisk.  With climate shifting, I doubt that is the case anymore.

Good rally site.   :thumb:  Go to St. Olaf Tavern for the pork tenderloin sandwich.   :food:   Not sure for the "Gunder" burger and microbrew.  They were resold.   :boozing:  Field of Dreams is nearby.
From the Deep Deep South out in left field.  There are no stupid questions.  There are however stupid people asking questions.  🤣, this includes me.  😉
