I think back on the days when "riding gear" for my motorcycle (my only vehicle) consisted of a helmet, and a pair of gloves.   I wore my work clothes - dress slacks, a casual shirt, and a pair of slip-on shoes.  I'd add a windbreaker if it was chilly or raining.  On weekend rides I'd change the work clothes for a pair of jeans and sneakers.  Now I look like the Michelin man. :(
