Buying a Cali from local EMS
« on: October 26, 2025, 09:37:03 AM »
Well, I’m about to do a thing. Local EMS has a 2014 California Touring they’re decommissioning. And after some back and forth, it looks like I’m soon going to be the new owner (it hasn’t hurt negotiations that I’m also an EMT ).

She has only around 3K miles — mostly used as a “fly vehicle” (with an on-board defibrillator and other life-saving equipment), but also did a few parades and 9/11 Memorial charity rides over the past decade.

I’m going to have to debadge her at their policy/request. It’s all vinyl stickers that’ll be quick work for a heat gun. Also have to remove the siren, lights, radio, etc.

A few minor dings, and one auxiliary headlight that needs replacing. But new tires in fall of 2023 (which have only 30 miles on them), and all around pretty solid and clean.

I’ve always thought the California was one of the prettiest Guzzis, and THE prettiest cruiser-style bike bar none. Fun winter project (and will also be going to Jim Hamlin’s for some servicing).

Woo-oooo-woo-ooo=wooooooooo!!!! :copcar:

Very decadent of your local organization to have acquired one for service. Wonder how that came to be? You may have a rare bird on your hands! Curious if it was a factory fit.
its not the end of the world...but you can see it from here!

Apparently, 2 or 3 Guzzi Californias were donated to the local Police Department and EMS back in 2014. As it was explained to me, at the time Moto Guzzi was trying (once again) to promote their bikes for law enforcement. The PD recently sent their Guzzis off to gov’t auction (now they have newer HDs).

But the EMS bike has just been sitting in their equipment garage for the past 2 years, unridden after its last service and tire change. Other than the emergency medical equipment in the top case, and the lights/sirens, I’m not aware of any particular mods made to the bike as a service vehicle. But will do some digging.

Hoping to complete transaction in next week or so, and will share more details and pics.
