Stainless brake lines for V9 Bobber
« on: January 25, 2026, 09:14:49 AM »
I already changed the pads on my V9 Bobber to get more bite, but I would like to get a bit more feel from the front brake.

I asked GTMotocycles and they were less than helpful.

Anyone have experience using Spiegler or HEL lines on their V9?

MG Cycle can supply build your own supplies!

I have used these products to build several lines. Works a charm.

I put Speigler lines on my '87 LMIVSE back in 2011, they fit perfect, very pleased with their performance & quality.

I thought the v9 came with braided stainless steel lines from the factory? My V7ii Stornello, and all my CARC bikes had SS lines from the factory.

Best thing you can do to improve brake performances to swap out your pads to something like the EBC HH scintered pads.

I already replaced the pads with EBC HH sintered pads as mentioned above.

The front lines don't look stainless. They're black with a grey stripe.

If they are stainless lines, my brakes suck.

The lines on the MkI,  and I think MkII, were obviously steel and I think plastic/rubber coated over top.

The lines on my MkIII are black and look plastic/rubber coated (at least on the outside). Maybe they are still steel inside, I never looked into it.

I've no idea, only know what I have on my bikes

You said pads , but not the HH pads. Have you swapped the fluid and bled? Dot 5.1 can be used in place of the DOT4 fluid and sometimes people report better performance.

There is only so much "bite" you're going to get from the single disc. Some have swapped out the master cylinder for a radial type. All my braided lines are stainless braided with a clear or black covering. I imagine you could look at the parts fiche on AF1 and order the OEM braided lines for the V9, or as others have said from MG Cycle or Harpers or one of the Dealers who make lines. I also think Spiegler or Core Moto make kits for the V9 Bobber and V9 Roamer.

My take on SS lines is they aren't bad, but can be overkill, and not make a huge difference in brake feel unless you are racing and really heating up the fluid which can make them expand and collapse, or the rubber lines are old and do the same.

The lines on my v9 Roamer, now Tom Kelly's Roamer, are absolutely braided steel from the factory.   The brakes work well, not great.  Perhaps some have rubber lines, but I never saw one that did.   If your unhappy with the brakes, it might have more to do with the smallish master cylinder than the lines?

What color are they? There's no way for me to tell because on all my previous bikes, they were clear over silver. Mine are black with a grey stripe.

EBC HH and fresh fluid is all you need to twist those single rotor forks severely. They should give you two finger normal breaking.

.  If GTM doesn't sell it, you dont need it. LMAO  Also never speak of any product other than what Toad Egan sells, on Guzzi Tech forum.  Toad Egan sold me a Rapid Bike Evo tuner set up for a Euro 4 bike, when mine was a Euro 5, wouldn't make it right.  He's the industries biggest beatch...
