Loop Alternator Conversion

Looks like I'm a little late to this party. 

Greg Field used to sell the mounting brackets and I guess a whole kit including alternator. Other places used to sell the mounting bracket, but not now. Looks like I'll have to make the bracket myself.

Are there drawings anywhere I could access? Any idea where I could locate the bracket new or used?

I installed one on my police Eldo and the hole for the oil line was too high, so unless they've moved it, that needs to be modified. Edit: one other thing I did: removed the powercoating on the underside so there would be a good ground to the case, and removed it also where the alternator contacts the bracket for the same reason.

I have a Denso copy for a spare that the light does not work right.

I built my own alternator bracket out of 1-1/2" flat stock and 1/4" pipe. I'll have to search around to see if I have any pictures. The bracket looked sort of like the USS Enterprise

When I bought my current ‘71 police Ambo, the seller had a new Field/Nolan Alt kit still in the box.  I didn’t hesitate to buy it from him to add to the refurb (to include new cylinders) at Charlie’s place.

If it's working, it will keep working. The copy I have did not make the light work correctly out of the box. I don't remember the exact issue, I think the light stayed on even though it was charging?? BTW police dash on both bikes with the pull knob for ignition.

Charlie - yeah, I know - how much is my time worth? And how much is my money worth? I do enjoy making stuff, but on the other hand, I've already got more than enough projects. So I really need to prioritize. This project isn't going to be back on the road any time soon, so there's plenty of time to make a decision. And, I guess, the condition of the generator will factor in as well.

Yes, I know it isn't, it's a Harper's bracket, as I wrote just above where I referenced yours.

I have 4  left, one is powder coated three are raw steel. They are 125.00 each plus 25.00 shipping in the US.

Wait long enough and you will have to make your own!     If you decide to sell it before you get around to fixing it, sell the bracket with it.

I did the Scrambler Cycle alternator conversion years ago, works great.  However, I made the mistake of running the belt too tight and snapped a mounting stud withing the first few months of operation.  Luckily, I was able to extract the broken stud without too much pain, replacements are available from McMaster-Carr, no trouble since.





  At the same time I did the conversion I also replaced the wire harness with one of Greg Benders, he fabricated the harness to accommodate the alternator conversion.
