HI-VIZ Reflective Tape
«

I've been considering putting HI-VIZ Reflective Tape on the back sides of my luggage. I've seen it and am just not sure if it's for me. How many herein have reflective tape on their bikes? Post photos please. I don't have a lot of room on the backs of my cases but this is the idea.

If using tape like shown, keep in mind that the direction of the arrows or angle of mounting has importance. The human mind is a strange thing and will follow subliminal messages easily. Arrows should point away from the center and / or down if mounted vertically. Chevrons should be placed to direct traffic down and away from the center of the vehicle. There is a great deal of safety information out there. Red and white stripes should be mounted to have red to the rear and white towards the front when mounted horizontally and red at the bottom and white to the top when mounted vertically. Just for starters. Have fun!
For example, in your photo the top would be correct the lower would not. It should be split at the center to mimic the top tape.

Aerostich has long sold a nice silver retro reflective tape that isn't ugly but catches light and stands out.
I've love used it on my luggage and have it on various Hepco & Becker bags.
I can't easily post pics from my phone but if you're really interested pm me an email and I'll send a few or I'll try to post some next time I'm on my desktop.
Are you on any FB Guzzi or V7 groups? I can post there easily.

Here are some pics of reflective tape on one of our bikes. I also tape the back of my helmet.
The tape quality and reflectivity varies greatly. I went with the high-end of the 3M tape.
Those hi-viz vests work well and don't take up much room.

When I had my BMW I had some tape on the side cases. I believe it was a 3M product that was a very dark grey, almost black in daylight, but at night when light hit it, it reflected bright red. Good stuff that made the rear of the bike stand out to approaching from the rear traffic at night.

I bought some of that segmented red/white DOT reflective tape that they use on
the sides and rear of tractor trailers. Off of Amazon, I think.
Works great! I cut out the red segments to put on the rear of the bike and the (out!)side
of the saddlebags.
Next project is to use some on the helmets. I'm thinking of some sort of a pattern other
than square chunks.......

Don't have anywhere to put tape on my Stornello (nor do I want to). I wear reflective safety green arm bands on my jacket and wear a safety green reflective vest if I feel the need to be even more visible. Higher is more noticeable than lower.
I also use a Brake Free helmet light which IMHO is cheap for the protection it offers.

Thanks all. I went with a silver/grey tape that blends in with the panniers and lights up amazingly when hit by light. The red and yellow was a bit too industrial for me. Pictures to follow.

I tend to put it on my luggage, but have sometimes done my best to blend it into the bike itself. Silver facing forward, red on the rear. DOT-C2 tape has omnidirectional reflectivity, especially great for visibility if you do any winter riding on top of night riding.
