2024+ V85 front turn signal replacement
« on: June 17, 2026, 12:18:21 PM »
So, I smashed up the front left turn signal on my 2025 V85 Strada.  The circumstances under which this occurred will remain known only to me.  I am not proud of it.

Apparently the replacement part, 2D000714 is quite difficult to lay your hands on in North America, which seems bizarre considering how many different Aprilia models use it.  Best I could find was Fortnine, who promise to get me one by mid July.

Anyway, I couldn't find instructions anywhere on how to remove the broken one, which is a shame because it is one of those cases where it is not immediately obvious what needs to be disassembled (and what doesn't).  So, for future references by other fellow klutzes, here you go:

You will need: 4 mm and 5 mm allen keys or sockets.  #25 torx.  small 10 mm socket on a small (1/4" drive) ratchet.

1. Remove the windscreen - this requires removing the three allen screws that go through the rubber grommets.  If you have never done this before, you may find that the assembly behind the windscreen just rotates.  It may appear that you need to get a thin open end wrench down between the screen and the cowling, but before you do that, try just pressing down hard on the screen to compress the grommet - that may provide enough resistance to break the torque without the back part spinning.

2. Remove the four short allen screws in the front of the cowling.

3. Remove the four #25 torx screws from the small side panels on the back side of the cowling - two are near the USB port; the other two are in the same position on the right.  Now you can remove the cowling.  In fact, it has probably already fallen off onto the floor.  You would have been well advised to leave one of the front screws in until you were ready to take the cowling off.  Dummy.

4. Locate the wire from the signal and disconnect from the harness.  The tiny connector has a little locking tab that you can lift with your fingernail.

5. The allen bolt that retains the turn signal is secured on the other side by a 10 mm nut.  I was able to put a small socket on that, and then unscrew everything using that ratchet and an allen key on the bolt.

Note that it is not necessary to remove the silver-coloured bracket that the turn signal attaches to.  But if you find this method too awkward, removing that part just requires you to take out the three screws that you can see from the side.

Seems like the indicator is used on a couple of Guzzi models and I spotted a few on UK feeBay for about £40. You might find someone willing to post to Canada.
I assume that it looks like this..

A pair from China?

Ya, that's it.  I went ahead and ordered a Chinese pair as well, since they are cheap and arrive faster I don't like riding with a turn signal missing.  My other option would be to scavenge one off my V7 850 temporarily, but I'd rather just leave that bike intact. Won't hurt to have a spare lying around - they are kind of fragile.

In looking through the parts diagrams, I see that some of the V85 model years show a different turn signal with a screw in bulb, but the part number is never given.  Diagrams from some years show both types on the same diagram, but again they don't give the part number for the older style.  I assume it has been superseded by the new LED type.

Good move. They may be a bit crappy compared to OEM but at least you could put on a matching pair, if needed.
Also, if you do notice a significant difference in quality, at least you'll have time to source an OEM one.

[I'm sure that I've still got (the same fittings) Ducati/BMW/Laverda ones kicking about in my garage, in various types of disrepair. All too easy to snap the stems on them. ;) ]

If the Chinese pair work OK, please share the order details with us so we can also have a source for these. Thanks.

They are definitely not okay lol.

I ordered these https://www.ebay.ca/itm/389193219614?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D777008%26algo%3DPERSONAL.TOPIC%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20250417133020%26meid%3D80007761fe114039bd52c62dd13cc678%26pid%3D102726%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26itm%3D389193219614%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D4375194%26algv%3DRecentlyViewedItemsV2DWebWithPSItemDRV2_BP&_trksid=p4375194.c102726.m162918

I'd classify this as a scam.  They are about 3/4 the size of the OEM units, and can't be mounted anyway because a) the bolt hole is too small and b) the plastic casing is so hard that the little hook / barb thingy doesn't flex at all.  Total garbage.  I am attempting to return.

Shame that they didn't work out - I guess that you didn't check those dimensions (I sometimes forget!). Send that comparison pic to the seller and I'm sure you'll be able to get a return/refund.
Perhaps try Aliexpress?

2D000714 is out of stock at the USA/Canada warehouse on backorder.  We ran out about 2 weeks ago.  ETA is 6-8 weeks, hopefully sooner.

I'm having a humorous back-and-forth with the seller. I told them the signal is much smaller than the OEM one (sent a photo), and also reported that the bolt hole was too small, so I'd like to return them.

First they said, what year is your V85?  Our product only fits 2018 to 2025.

I told them it was a 2025, and the OEM turn signal is the same part number for several model years in the range they mentioned, so their part wouldn't fit any of them.

Then they said, it's an aftermarket part so some variation from original is expected.  How about we give you a 10% discount and you just drill the bolt hole bigger?  But if you want to return, we understand.

I told them no thanks.  I want to return it.

They came back with, c'mon, how about 20%? You can just drill the hole bigger, lots of other people have done it.  But if you want to return, we understand.

I told them the hole wasn't the only problem.  It's also that the plastic is completely rigid so the little plastic hook doesn't flex at all, making it impossible to position the signal on the OEM stalk.  Please send return instructions, and do not make me any more alternative offers.

Still waiting on that free shipping return label.  I'm honestly not upset about this at all.  It's less than CDN$65, and it's far from the first time I have got punked by someone shady Chinese vendor online.  I'm just curious how it is going to turn out.

I'm a little more upset about the sometimes ridiculously long wait times to get Moto Guzzi OEM parts.  Realistically, this would have to count as a disadvantage of the brand if someone were asking me if I recommend it or not.  If this were my first or only bike I think I'd be a bit put out.

I've had Ali ex give me credit with out a fight several time. But I figure if I order from China it's just lost money so if it's not worth the gamble I just don't buy.
Being as kind as I can, Guzzi parts supply and warranty SUCKS! Just think of how many dealers have quit because of this. There is basically no place for them to go any more. All these massive multi location dealerships will never tolerate their BS!

Yeah, not unusual to go through those shenanigans.  :undecided:
In the UK version, if you initiate a return on the basis of "doesn't fit", feeBay will automatically trigger the seller to produce a return label at no cost to the buyer.
Sometimes there is a couple of days delay but usually happens near immediately.

If it were your only bike, then a pair of those awful 'universal' 8mm indicators might be required,in the interim. I guess you gotta be thankful that you're not pressed into that option.

This screwed up thread is driving me nuts!

I rarely buy from ebay but I did order a cheap muffler for the v85 that listed it as fitting. It didn't because it needed a connector pipe that they and nobody else had for sale. They tried hard to get out of taking it back but ebay forced them to. Very satisfied with them.

This screwed up thread is driving me nuts!

Sorry for blowing out the window.  If I knew how to fix it I would.

Today I broke down and harvested a signal off my V7 (super easy job - only reason it took more than
5 min was because I have a fly screen installed) and put it on the V85.

I'm riding the V85 a lot more these days, so the poor little V7 can wait patiently in the garage until the new part shows up.
