Convert Coil Connectors

I'm tantalisingly close to having my Convert back up and running but I can't figure out which connector I need to fit to the coil side of the HT leads. The coils are the 3 ohm metal cans and it looks like they have a center pin with no thread. I've been trying to push copper core HT lead onto it but it won't go. Picked up some crimp connectors from Gutsibits but I don't see how these would ever contact the pin. What am I missing here?

The center section where the plug wire goes in has an external thread, correct? You need a rubber "ferrule" that goes onto the wire and also the threaded cap. Put the cap on the plug wire, then the ferrule with about 1/2" of plug wire sticking through. The spike down in the coil contacts the wire and makes the connection.

If you buy one of these NGK plug wire splicers, you will have everything you need for both coils. Sometimes the nut bottoms out before it snugs up against the ferrule, if it does, trim the nut slightly shorter.

If they are like stock coils the caps are brittle Bakelite. They crack sometimes. There are replacements available. I haven't looked in 40yrs

Perfect, looks like that's done it. Yes, there is an external thread on the coils and I had the caps for those but didn't notice the rubber 'ferrule' pieces as they were stuck inside.

I stripped the cables so that just a little bit of copper core was poking out and then snugged everything up. Luckily my caps seem to be good and didn't crack. Hopefully tomorrow I can give the bike its first start since 1984!

Your front fender is backasswards..it goes the other way around…2 don’t feel bad we've seen it before ..that fender acts as a fork brace

Keep track of the very small thin shims between brake calipers and fork legs, they establish the final orientation over the disc. They disguise themselves as bolt washers, or not replaced on assembly

I'll second what chuck Peterson said about the Fender.
 It is on backwards, but it's your bike.
The way it is, you'll just get more dirt thrown up on the alternative cover.  water, dead bugs, rocks bricks etc.

Good eye on the fender Chuck.    I thought something looked "funny" on the front end. Thats it!

Oops, yeah, I see it now. I'll put that one on the post-build todo list 

This morning I finished the coil wiring, hit the starter and it fired right up on the first crank - like it had just been parked yesterday and not 40 years ago! Runs rich, peed some ATF out of one of the lines but otherwise all good, and I appreciate the help.
