Clutch cable free play changes

Always wondered exactly why my Toni clutch cable starts out with just a little-free play when cold and as the bike heats up the free-play increases a little bit.  Never an issue, just a curiosity.  Does the aluminum case expand that much?  Thanks.

My Darmah used to do that…
I think the clutch pack expands and the outer plate drifts away from the pushrod. Dunno about the Guzzi.

What model & what clutch are you using. Could be the whole cable is moving around when you pull clutch in.
