v50 Cardan joint and drive shaft wear
« on: August 22, 2015, 07:52:17 AM »
Hi, Just stripping down the drive box etc and want to check about cardan joint. The manual just says check the teeth/spines etc, but there is barely a perceivable amount of play in the joint itself- It's so slight that sometimes I can't feel it, but it's there. Tbh I would probably ignore it but thought I'd check, is this okay, is there an acceptable level of play ?

And see the pic below, the splines the other end have some marks on them but the socket they go into are fine, is this usual, is this an issue ? They look like marks from when the shaft was machined to me ?

Looks ok to me. The cardan joint *is* rebuildable, but I've never done it. The Aero Lario's is probably about the same as yours. I asked the Kid (whiz mechanic) what he thought. He said "run it."
