Labor Day weekend event
« on: August 28, 2015, 08:13:51 PM »
I won't be doing any riding that weekend, but I will be attending the best rocketry event in the area.

AIRFest is an annual event put on by the Kloudbusters group and if you are even remotely interested in rocketry, this is the event to see. See all the details here http://www.kloudbusters.org/airfest/Default.aspx

There will be small rockets weighing mere ounces you can hold in the palm of your hand to large rockets weighing several hundred pounds that will launch from nearly a mile away. Altitudes from a few hundred feet up to 50,000 feet.

1/4 A impulse motors to P impulse motors. A quick lesson, in rocketry motors, every time you go up an impulse letter, it is up to double the impulse of the previous letter. 1/4 A, 1/2A, A, B, C.....

A youtube search will result in many videos of past events. Kloudbusters AIRFest

It is motorcycle accessible, the rocket pasture is located east of Anthony,Ks and south of Argonia, Ks. About 1 1/4 miles east of Argonia rd and one mile north of K33. Road from Argonia rd is dirt, and road from K33 is rock. I have been out there with the Jackal a few times and as long as it hasn't rained, the roads are good.

If you come by I will have my AMGeneral as my command center. Sat is the big burger blast after the days events. All the good eats and stories of the launch for only $5.

After this it's back to riding. MoKan, Oklahoma.

Until then,
See ya,
Rod

I used to love doing that stuff.   An Estes "Streak" model with a 1/2A motor would go clean out of sight.   I never got into the real big ones, but we did have a "Little Joe" model with 3 "D" motors that was pretty impressive.

Now I want to get out my old launching pad again and see if I have any ignitors left ....

Fun times I had as a kid with model rockets!

Labor Day for us is going to our local Rodeo, camping for the weekend with the kids and years past my cousin and his family, damned the bad luck he's stuck working this year. Hope everyone has a fun and safe holiday weekend.
