First 8V Valve Adjustment
« on: March 25, 2015, 12:44:35 PM »
I recently picked up a 2012 Stelvio with 26K km, and while it has been recently maintained, I still plan to go back through the normal steps of valve adjustment, balance, TPS reset, etc.  So, I am ordering a set of valve cover gaskets, but seem to recall that something else was recommended to have on hand for an 8V (possibly o-rings?).  I think the post I saw on the subject was from Pete Roper, but I can't seem to find it now.  Anything I should plan for?

The good news is that the engine number seems to indicate that it is already a roller!   ;-T

Thanks,
Shaun

The valve cover gaskets and rubber grommets on the bolts SHOULD all be reusable. If you are ordering gaskets, order a couple of spare grommets in case you get one that leaks a bit.
I think I replaced the o-rings on the spark plug tubes once also.

Mainly, BE CAREFUL WHEN PULLING THE PLUG WIRES. They are easy to damage.

If it is a roller engine you won't need to worry about o-rings as the valve cover sealing system has changed an the plug 'ole is now sealed by another neoprene gasket ring of similar design as the main gasket. Engines that use this 'Floating', (The factory's description.) rocker cover system also use different tampons on the retainer screws. Make sure when ordering that you ask for the later type.

Valve clearances are six and eight thou and the 8V is very sensitive to valve clearance changes!

Pete
