All,
Sort of a "how was your day" post. I did see a white Moto Guzzi Stelvio parked at Schlumberger this afternoon at my very last seismic processing meeting. Tomorrow is my very last work day, and I am taking my last vacation day Friday. Monday morning I drop the retirement bomb on Mr. Boss. All is good, the system is ready.
Hawaii family trip was truly awesome. However, hours after arriving my wife got a phone call from one of her brothers: their favorite uncle passed a few minutes before, in Texas. He died of Alzheimer's at age 68 after suffering for five years. She emotionally spun out, and took a couple days to recover. Very tough timing as this uncle was very close, a favorite of mine, a splendid and fun personality: a second father to my wife.
I had planned to meet up with Sasquatch Jim in Kona. Family priorities meant that was a non-starter: I had to be there for my wife. After a couple days she calmed down, only after considering a quick fly back to Texas (no way possible). Same thing happened when her grandfather passed years ago, also of Alzheimer's, but we were about to board our one way flight from Denver to Tunis, Tunisia. Feh.
Fall is coming to the Gulf coast. The brutal long heat and humidity is declining. Also no hurricanes again. So old LD perks up when fall hits. All my camping gear is still in storage, and I hope this coming week we get our upstairs pack-out back. It all went to storage due to the house re-carpeting after the AC leak and flood and major damage.
Friday I will roll the V7R out and get a ride in for the first time in 3 weeks. I have the itch. She needs a new rear tire and I may try and get that done next week. My BIL and nephew in San Antonio want me to ride over for a long weekend, so that will happen.
But first I have to go see mom in Durango, CO: at 94 she is fragile, and she has been falling, and not telling the assisted living Admin. So, I need to check into her situation. I also note increased difficulty and confusion, she is struggling.
So, yeah that is it. I think life will settle and morph and I will adjust to retirement starting late October. I will take 3 days at our San Juan County cabin to chill and watch the aspens before the winter really sets in.
You all have fun at the GRIT rally and OK meet up. My flexibility will exponentially increase very soon. I can't wait to do that first motorcycle camping trip: a long dream about to come true. Fall and winter and spring are prime outdoor months here. I hope for not too wet of a winter.
