Don't agree with the order but they sure grabbed some goodies here.

John , they aren't listed in order of quality , the ratings are off to the right . I did notice the Talimena DR got a decent rating , although there are better roads in Oklahoma . Kind of a popularity contest .

Right off the bat it seems odd for Skyline Dr to have a higher raiting than the BRP

There are some great roads listed, but, in general these seem to be the ones that are very well known with lots of MC traffic. I can only speak for my experience in my state: KY. The roads on the list are good, but they aren't exactly what I would consider close to the top rides in the state: they are popular rides. I'm glad that my favorite roads in the Commonwealth were NOT listed....keep 'em free of traffic.  ;D

I have used that site for planning trips, knowing the hazards of picking a 'popular' route.

I do have to say that the Coronado Trail in AZ shown is not crowded.  Probably cause it is a bit out of the way, and there is not many businesses on the road.  Ride it on a weekday and you can count the number of other vehicles on one hand.

Charlie,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that road looks like the old rt. 666. Even when I was a young man, a trip down 666 would wear me out!

That site is screwed up.

I see places that are great RIDES, that they are giving poor ratings to because there are no beer stops, well, maybe coffee stops, along the way.  ???
And I see a few places that aren't worth pointing out, that get high rates because 1 person published it and that 1 person rated it high. Boom, it is near the top.

Odd.

True. You have to remember that most bikes in the US are cruisers, though.. and cruise is what they do, even though they think they might be tearin up the twistys.  ;D Gotta stop for rest and refreshment every now and then from hangin on with a death grip..  ~;

yeah, I noticed that many of the riders were on Harleys.  But the site is interactive and any can contribute.

After all, it's not just the best roads in the US, but also best road in your area for a day ride- like a route around Cedar Vale KS.   :pop

There you are . This more a resource for finding good local roads . Yeah , Colorado has a bunch of great roads , as do California and Western NY . Kind of meaningless to a rider in Oklahoma looking for a nice Sunday ride .

Dusty, that's why I put the Crescent- Mulhuall - Guthrie route and Hogback Rd in the local OKC area.  These roads won't make the Arkansas 1000 list but are all we have here.  There some day routes to Mt Scott and around Arbuckles too.

But heading east of OKC it's an overnighter.

Man there are some absolute gems that are missing from both IA and IL. I'm especially surprised that, seeing the two "upper Illinois" roads listed, that some specific roads weren't listed instead, considering they're in VERY close proximity to the ones mentioned, and some IA ones aren't all too far from there either.

But that's perfectly alright with me. I prefer that not everyone knows of these gems and soon turn them into ruined traffic jams (i.e. Tail of the Dragon, etc).

I have ridden several of these roads. Some more impressive than others. A lot of impressive roads not on the list. I have ridden all 3 of the roads in Florida and the fact they are mentioned speaks volumes (to me anyway). I guess it is one of those "beauty is the eye of the beholder" things.

Yes, it is the old US666.  Changed quite a few years ago to US191.

And, yeah, you can get tired on it :)

Did any of you guys check out each of the state's listings?  Not just the ones on the top 100.  I found a few roads that way.  And, yes, you have to read the posting to determine if it is good because of the number of bars or if it is because of the road.

I just looked at the Massachusetts / New Hampshire loop (#72), and all I'll say is they really missed the boat. I live in the area, and I know much better roads that I can put you on if you want a "loop".

Indiana and Illinois are only slightly better than Michigan, and that's only because of the southern 1/4 of them. The only jog in the road is where a surveyor screwed up 150 years ago.. ;D

Just the quad city area. I've been to SW Wisconsin a lot, and it's.. bucolic. I *assume* NW Illinois is the same?
