New Tires For 1000S, suggestions?
« on: March 17, 2015, 08:31:52 PM »

I need new tires for the 1000S. I had previously 2 sets of Metzeler Lasertec's and they seemed to be OK tires.

Since the front AND rear are toast, I can switch to a different brand. I ride slow, I ride fast, lots of concreteslab and often carving PA Canyons.

Any suggestions??

I've said it before, Tonti frames and Sport Demons are a match made in heaven..  ;D (as long as you don't care about mileage) There are higher mileage tires available.

I used to run the BT-45's too.  Then I tried the Sport Demons.  Great tires.

But, with the mileage I put on, the rear was breaking my piggy bank (about 8k miles til it was bald).  So, on the rear I put a Shinko on the rear and the front still wears a Sport Demon.

The Shinko 712 is as good or better than the BT45 and gets 6-8k miles. It has also made my skills at tire changing much better as I am willing to toss the tire before it gets to the wear bars.

I would highly recommend the Avon roadriders. I've been running a set for two years now.

I ran Sport Demons on my Eldo, they worked great, I knew the Santa Monica mountains very well, so planning for braking was easy ~;

I Sport Demon on my V7R and Shinko 712's on the 850T/850T3 and Eldo. The Sport Demons don't have an advantage over the Shinko's as far as I'm concerned.

Pirelli Sport Demon and Michelin Pilot Activ have been good for me on Tontis.

I won't recommend Metzler 880 for a sport Tonti, even though they handle and wear really well.

Just sayin'.  But don't use 'em, just because I like 'em on the Cali.

I liked the feel of the Pilot Activ better.  But, the Pirellis and Michelins were on two different bikes, so that could account for some of the difference.

It's a good tire, but gets a bad rap from some quarters because they don't like the wet weather performance.

I've never run the bias ME880, but the radial version was a fine sport-TOURING tire.

Not sure if it's available to fit the 1000S, but would be a good option.

Ok, Sport Demons will be ordered. ;-T
The 1000S had some strange behavior with Metzelers, they felt like riding on rails. Thats the only way I can describe it....
