Small block throwout bearing
« on: March 28, 2015, 11:16:29 AM »
ANyone pull the bearing in their small block without disassembling the swingarm?  Is there room to simply take the clutch arm off and pull it out?

I sincerely doubt it, there is barely room to adjust it. Removing the swingarm is easy, and you get to lube splines while your at it. pull the swinger...

Already did it.  Not much trouble if you lay on your back and have a long handled needle-nose with bent tips and long thin fngers.  Races/bearings looked good.

Question:
While using a magnet to extract the inner bearing race, the magnet found the inner pushrod and pulled it from its recess.  I did not pull it out and upon extracting the race, pushed it back in.  All seems well, but did I possibly disturb anything by having the iner pushrod pull out slightly from within?

From my (admittedly rusty) memory, no.

These photos might help explain the assembly. In the first photo shows the protruding end of the push rod. The last photo shows its seal (#21) within the shaft. As long as nothing is leaking it should be okay.

Excellent photos, thanks much.   ;-T
Looks like everything remains intact if there is a slight bit of movement.  My exploded view of the interior parts was "exploded" and showed parts in the wrong place and scared me a bit.  That seal was the item in question and I can see it stayed put.
Thanks much.

Sadly I think the NATO kickstart was early V50 only. And seems to be hen's teeth. Weird off-side and sideways like an ancient BMW so you'll need the bike to be up on the center stand. My V50II starts immediately without the choke if ambient temperature is over 75ºF. Choke on for start only, immediately off if less than that. Kick would be easy and save the weight of the starter. Monza's a bit grumpier but still easier than the kick-only BSA B40. (SS90 tune) Sure would be nice to have kickstart backup. Not gonna happen in the real world.

The lack of a kickstarter was the part about my first guzzi that made me nervous.  I still feel vulnerable being so battery dependent.

Boy, does that bring back memories...
That's the combustion chamber of the turbo shaft. It is supposed to be on fire. You just don't usually see it but the case and fairing fell off.
