maiden cruise May 2 2015
« on: May 02, 2015, 06:41:03 AM »
Just a short trip ....Hudson OH to Charleston WV for a granddaughter's birthday celebration.  Approx 230 miles taking the slab (I 77), which I have to do today to get there before the party is over.  Tomorrow, lots more miles and a lot of two lane.... maybe WV 16 north to the ferry boat across the mighty Ohio River.  It's the first weekend weatherman has been able to string two good days together.  Taking 1200 Sport.

Have fun at the party.  I love grandkids ... in theory.  Lots of 'em and their friends in one place make me nervous.  Especially if MY place.   ::)

That said, grandgirls, as with our own daughters, can be charming little ladies who know how to get their ways even when we know we are being taken for a ride.   ;)

And, speaking of a ride, have a fine one.  Ferries are grand.  Haven't been on that one; need to give it a try.

Always good to see the little gals.  We actually talk when they take time to get their noses out of their IPads!  Down yesterday via Interstate I 77.  Back today primarily on old WV 16.  Road surface condition varied from 3rd world to not so bad.  OH SR 800 was in pretty good condition from Fly heading north as far as New Philadelphia OH. Here's a  few pics of the ferry that crosses from Sistersville WV to Fly OH "in season."

One of our WG members and a fellow 1200 Sport rider asked me to provide some mpg info:

Miles on one very full tank of 93 octane:  270 miles
Type of roads:  100% interstate (I 77, 35 miles of I 79)
Fill up took 5.9 gallons to very top of tank
Dashboard stats:
Avg mpg: 41.2
Saddle time: 4hr/14min
Avg speed: 63mph
Max speed: 91mph

Coming back on secondary roads nearly doubled the saddle time, while only increasing miles traveled by 30-40.  Obviously, I'm not a hot shoe in the twisties!

That sort of grand trip, and you aren't grinning?

C'mon, fella.  You are living many guys' dream.  Including mine:  I rode a Cub Cadet all day.   ;D

Grinning, hell?  I think I was asleep!

Too true,Bill .... I am living the dream.  Able to throw a leg over a great bike and aim it wherever I want.  Doesn't take much to make us riders happy.

BTW - I have a Honda mower calling out to me for tomorrow.

I did about 200 miles today on my 1200 Sport; they are indeed a comfortable mileage eater!  I've done a 1,000 mile day on it last year, and hope to do 1,000 again this June (Colorado Classic 1000).
