78 1000SP filter box questions
« on: May 08, 2015, 03:06:46 PM »
Hello all, I have a 78 1000SP which has been handed down to me. I love the bike because no one else has them and always pulls attention. But I can't sit on it without making it my own. Because I have I have started to change things to my liking. Firstly I want to open the mid engine area up. Use K&N filters and breathers for the case vents but I can't find exactly what I need for the case vents. I have read several different things but figured I'd ask you all here and see what you though. Do I just need a breather filter or will they need check valves as well? I want a little as possible under the seat besides maybe the battery. Thanks for any input!

Use this:

and remove the check valve inside the big breather tube on the engine. You'll need the short hoses that go between it and the engine:

(5/16" 30R7 hose will work)

and the longer one that goes from the breather to the atmosphere/ground:

That's what I used on my 1979 SP1000

Make sure you remove the check ball in the vent pipe.

That's good info! Thanks. Are there any routes without the box or is that a must?
