The Stelvio has fallen over in the garage while sitting in a front wheel chock…  No idea how.

My Wife was taking care of charging the cycles while I have been on the West Coast and she called frantic a couple of days ago to tell what had happened.  She opened the garage door to park her car and discovered to poor thing sitting over on it’s right side…  at least thankfully it landed on a couple of small Honda CRFs and that broke the fall and kept it from going all the way to the deck.

Well this fall broke the mirror mount which happens to be incorporated into the front brake master cylinder reservoir…  great.

I’ll mess around with trying to repair the threaded lug but I fear I will be replacing the part…

Any Stelvio parting going on out there…?

Thanks,
Rob

Pete,
If you would please...

I have yet to make it to the local deal or even think about repairs as I Just got home and the place is full of surprises...

Brother-In-Law had a stroke, my cousin called telling me about her Dad's failing and I should come see him soon, Oh man, there is much to do here after a brutal Winter and here I am fretting over what amounts to a broken mirror mount...  ::)    That kind of pales by comparison, doesn't it...

Kindly let me know what you find Pete, thanks..

Best,
Rob

Hello, I just crashed my 2009 Stelvio 3 weeks ago. I am not very mobile yet, so I have not carefully examined the bike. Maybe there are some parts that can work for you. Thanks, Chris

I do not know what the stelvio m/c looks like.  Does it have a 2-piece bar clamp?  If it does you can find the half-clamp with a lug built in on ebay or perhaps one of the usual suspects.

Here's a random example:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Moto-Guzzi-Brembo-Front-Brake-Clutch-Master-Cylinder-Black-Mirror-Mount-Clamp-/331525152737?hash=item4d30705fe1&vxp=mtr

Doesn't have to be brembo, but the thread direction and count will be important.

Geez Chris,
Sorry to hear of your get-off and I hope you heal well soon.

If you discover that your Stelvio is a loss then let me know.

In the mean time, take your time, get well.

Best,
Rob

rodekyll,
Right, I spent a bit of time looking at the masters on several supplier's websites and eBay, I have seen this type and unfortunately, the Stelvio has a different mount.  It also incorporates one of the hand guard mounting points so I think I am stuck either repairing this one or replacing with OEM.

Thanks,
Rob

+1 ..  if you can't find the pieces you can actually build up a block of JB weld and drill and tap it.  Should be strong enough to hold a mirror forever.

John:  Sacrilegious, I know, but both my Cali Stones have their dual front disc conversions operated by a mid-2000s Suzuki V-Strom master cylinder.  These are 16mm bore, feature an adjustable lever position and on e-bay I paid about $80 each in very good condition.

BTW, one of my conversions uses a Brembo 4 piston caliper you gave me.  I am very grateful for that kindness, as I have expressed earlier to you.

Yup, I'm gonna try that.  What do I have to loose...?  I'll keep you posted.   ;D

Due to the dual purpose of the mirror mount that also captures and secures the hand guard and I am not interested in changing the stock configuration.  I'll either repair the boss or replace the master...

Best,
Rob

Well that JB Weld is some other kinda cool stuff let me tell ya.  I have used JB Weld before in other applications but I had my doubts that is would secure the threaded mounting boss as well as it has on the side of the front brake master.

I applied a small amount directly to the broken case aluminum piece that had been knocked off, it had that erratic type of break that allowed the part to be fitted back in only one position and it felt very secure and locked in even without the JB W.

I stuck it back on the side of the reservoir where it had been busted from and let it sit over night.  The next afternoon I checked it and the part took a great deal of tugging without any signs of letting go so I applied and outside coating around the break joints and let that sit overnight.  Mounted the mirror and hand guard this AM and done.

      ==============================================

Now, let me tell you what I discovered about how the Stelvio fell in the first place...

I used one of those front wheel chocks to stow the big guy for the Winter, no center stand, first mistake but hey, I'm young, I will learn....

When I got home I moved the motorcycle to both clean the area around the and get the Harley out and as I rolled it back felt the resistance and immediately recognized that as a low tire...  Bing...!  The light went off.

I have to believe that the low air pressure, the air slowly going down over the Winter was the culprit.  It made Sue feel better about the care she had been giving the cycles too...!
