Hey guys, still looking for a replacement for the Miata.. mostly was looking at CRV's and Subaru's.. remember that thread? It went into Ford Rangers (built in St Paul, where I was born) then swerved into Benz and other SUV's.
so now I might go see this Explorer pickup and want your thoughts.. it spent some time in garage while the owner was deployed.

I think it would be hard to find another one like it. Looks new. If it was closer I'd buy it. Jump on it.

I always liked the Spor-Tracs and really thought I might buy one. I've had two friends with them, both loved them.
BUT - both HATED the mileage. It was HORRIBLE.
I think ultimately that's what kept me away.
So if you're not going to be driving it a lot or you're not worried about fuel costs, then I suspect mechanically it'll be fine.''
Although, that is a LOT of miles on it, and the Outlander, FWIW, has a good bit less and should be cheaper to fuel. The 5-speed is nice too.

That ford looks nice but the mileage would scare me off.

Find a good Avalance, they are bigger but a lot better too. If you go smaller, take a look at that Honda thing that competes with the Ford.

On a road trip a couple years ago I was tiring of the road noise on the Edge (they seem to start out quiet then you get used to it and the noise increases....) so I was looking and eye balling Ford Explorers. Kinda of a grown up Edge, can tow a bit more - just a wee bit. Test drove one, nice but not real impressive. Asked a buddy about them as he had a buddy that owned one. Found out U-Haul will not rent a trailer to a Ford Explorer. All because of the Firestone tire issue a long time ago.
Never mind it's a completely different vehicle now; it seems when litigation happens and U-Haul hires a lawyer; when they hear the word "Explorer" the rates go up.
That was a deal killer for me. When I need to rent a trailer I don't need the hassle.
