I just swapped on Goldwing pegs on the Stelvio (about an inch lower, longer, wider, etc.) and did not have any issues.
I started the pin through the front tang then pushed down on the spring to align it and pushed the pin in the rest of the way. A little wiggling of the peg made everything line up. In other words, put the spring into the slots - since it is uncompressed, it will be sticking up significantly. Start the pin then push the spring down in between the peg tangs, compressing it. Slide the pint he rest of the way through.
