I Hate my V7Classic .... Turn Switch!

Yep. Hate the turn switch!

Never worked smoothly.

The left turn operation would sometimes activate properly but usually not turn off without resorting to moving the lever back and forth, back and forth, pushing pulling. trying to get the reset push to "catch" and return to the off condition.

Silicon spray would help a lot, for a few weeks, but the condition would always return. Yesterday I had a couple of cars get too close because of the wrong signals being given. Tailgater almost rear ended me as I was slowing down for a right turn and my right signal isnt working at all now. Testing it later ... works ..... 25% of the time.

Use the left signal and the darn lever sticks and wont return to center on its own, and it wont shut off again without a lot of distraction and effort .... argggh! Dangerous indeed.

This is what is inside my crappy turn switch.....

This is the part that I think is causing my main problem - the turn lever part - its a stamped metal piece with rough edges. Edges have been smoothed out with 400 and 600 emery paper.

This is the terminal section that snaps into the main plastic component - clean the green and renew the contact area should help. Increase the spring tension a bit should help too.

Still apart at the moment ...I needed a break handling these little pieces!   :coffee:

Later dudes!

Took a while to get it back together. The horn button below the turn switch was very stubborn in returning to the correct position and would jam if not inserted back in at the proper angle. Nothing like a stuck horn button to announce your repair is complete!

It is really tight in there! I had taken the fast idle cable and the rest of the electrical cables out of the lower housing to make it easier to assemble and install the turn switch, and getting the electrical cable routed without pinching was a challenge.
Well, its together and working much better now, very smooth activation in both directions, returns to center properly after the left direction activation and now can be shut off easily by pushing the turn switch button straight in first time. Yay.

The right operation also looks like it returns to the center smoothly but I still have to figet it a little bit back a forth before I can get the alignment right, so it will be able to push in and cancel the right signal. But it will cancel when it does goes in now.

Oh well, I will take another look at it again tomorrow to see if there is an easy tweak to improve that.

But it is a big improvement in activation, the signals work every time now, and the feel is smooth in both directions. I dont have to take my eyes off the road to look at the dash indicators now. I can use just the feel of the switch to know with a feeling of confidence.

The last one in the second row can also mean, "I need a kidney stop'.

Sort of a side note. I have had the turn switch sticking in one direction on the EV this Spring. I juiced it with Fluid Film and it is working great now. Returning to center every time.

My turn signal switch has been fine so far. It's the side stand that needs lube every week...I've tried everything, and I'm all out of ideas.

Ken, if the V7C is anything like the Nevada, I don't know if there is a solution. Jan took to carting a small can of WD-40 around to juice it when it would begin to stick. Oddly, it will work fine right up until it sticks, then it is near impossible to get down.

Now if someone knows the secret, I too am all ears.............

Ken

I have that problem with the sidestand on my V7C, have for a long while; took it apart & found the pivot bolt deeply grooved. I have a new pivot bolt and springs, & am looking to have a brass bush made up for it, to prevent/slow down the wear. I have been leaving that job until I have the engine out so I can get to it comfortably (now due - clutch needs replacing, as does the gear shift return spring). Until then, a regular spray with ACF-50 has been doing the job. No problem with the indicator switch.
