Report on electric ATF pump experiment (Convert content)
« on: June 17, 2015, 08:04:49 PM »
I installed a cheap ($75) electric oil pump on the rodekyll.  It was rated at 8gpm and 6# pressure.  It runs, sort of.  I can get forward locomotion, but no real ooompah behind the revs.  It would be unsuitable even for emergency service.  Evidently I can't get enough pressure up to overcome the spinning vanes of the t/c, so it's real reluctant to circulate.  If electric, then higher pressure and lots of volume.  It could get $$$$pensive fast.

I'm glad this is over.  My curiosity has morphed into "I'm getting tired of draining the atf tank."  This last time I goosed the throttle, not expecting anything, and ran over the (full) drain pan when the t/c caught a good swig of sauce.   :coffee:

IIRC, the first "Eldovert" I ever saw was built by Dale Peterson. He used a Holley electric pump with regulator set at 30 psi.

Was it a Holly fuel pump?

When I get the energy and extra $$ I will give that one a try.  My assumption was that fuel pumps don't do well with high temperatures.
