Disturbing the peace (GC)...
« on: June 18, 2015, 08:17:49 PM »
Is it considered disturbing the peace if you've got cans that let a little sound out (Bubs with baffles) when someone wants a little?

I was at a stop light with the cafe Lario when I see a bicyclist and his wife crossing the sidestreet to my right and he veers over and shouts out "NICE BIKE".  Light turns green and I see him now ahead on the bike path 15 yards off the road with his hand up to his ear wanting some music; so I gave him a quick melody.  This guy has to be a Guzzi guy because he understood the music.  I did this once before and someone on the board said "that probably isn't cool to give some throttle and make all that noise".   :weiner:  Noise??  This is music to some ears, and this proves my point when they ask for it man.

I don't think it is a problem. I put a set of Lafranconi competizione pipes on, and I was worried they might be a bit too loud. Most people want to hear the sound of the pipes, and I get waves from folks who never paid attention to me riding by with stock pipes.
Most comments are that it sounds much better than a harley. It does have a sweet song for sure.  :whip2:

I have been riding for over 40 years, and this is the first set of aftermarket pipes I have ever installed. It is not my intention to make the bike annoyingly loud.
I am having a ball with this bike, I am very happy with it. It brings a smile to my face every time I ride.

You're no musician are you?  Not why I ride either, but being a musician and seeing someone react this way and get excited by seeing a Guzzi and understanding the sound they make was pretty cool.  Wasn't really about the pipes as they're not that loud, but the ride.  Guzzi gets unique responses and this I've never had before.  Better than, "Nice bike... so who makes that?" This guy knows Guzzi and that was cool to see! :thumb:

If nobody complains it's not disturbing the peace.
Don't get me wrong, I am a known curmudgeon and I have actually called the sheriff when the local gay pirates drive by my house blipping their throttles so that I can't hear the movie on the TV in my living room.

I have bubs on my SP and I like them, but.....
Several years ago, I was leaving the video store (see, it was several years ago) getting on my FJ1100and a small girl got a concerned look on her face and put her fingers in her ears. When I started my NOT loud bike, she smiled at me in the sweetest way.

I like the sound of a beautiful exhaust. I play guitar, too (sometimes very loudly). They are both music to my ears.

Disturbing the peace is not a criminal offense, just a violation like a parking ticket. Loud exhaust is nowhere as annoying as barking dogs...And vehicles move so the noise does pass by...

I have a Lario with lafranconi-exhaust, and even if I love the sound, I allso apreciate that perhaps not everybody share my taste... Therefore, I reserve the hard soundmaking to abandoned norwegian countryside-roads, where only I, the bike and the occational Moose can hear me. When I was younger and rode back home from a night on the town, I allways did my best to not make un-nessecary sound for my neighbours. In city centre etc. I allways tried to ride on as low rev's as possible, where the lafranconis does what they do best; make a low bass-sound that isn't too loud, but makes people turn their heads. On high revs, I don't particularily like the sound of the lafranconis; they scream like norwegian black-metal-vocalists... I prefere the Jonny Cash-sound they make on low revs.

Besides, after beeing stopped once by the police and they asked: "Are those exhausts original", and I got away with the reply; "Well, eh, they're just as italian as the bike", I have allways done my best not to make un-nessecary sound in built-up areas and in the city centre  :copcar:

One time at a little B&B in a small town just starting the T-3 with Emego mufflers and with the baffles set off a car alarm. Have never had that happen before or since.

I had LF's from the factory on my first Lario and couldn't take it. Those suckers are loud and hard sounding. Went to whisper quiet stocks. When I had this bike hopped up Ed put the longer Bubs on and I had my concerns obviously, but you don't hop a bike up only to snuff it out, so I was open-minded about it from a "practical" sense. To my surprise these had a loud tone but very low and much more refined than the LF's. I next set out to enhance the delivery (quiet them) by fitting some reducers at the rear. This brought the decibel levels down and kept the bikes delivery level up. So... I am on the quiet end of what I would still consider forte. It is not tiring to listen to as a rider and a baritone voice character. Obviously this guy wanted all of it.

My Le Mans has Bubs and Contis off a Ducati bevel drive. It sounds like a stock car, especially when going through town  with the rpms up. Like an old friend from Argentina once told me "Beeeeautiful noise"!

I love the sound of my Mistrals and how I can play music with the throttle. Where appropriate!

But those darn two strokes! I have been in a couple of campgrounds next to nice sandy beaches = 2 stroke personal watercraft races at 2 am! and parties and loud music too.

And I can't sleep with all that violin music playing!  :weiner:

I put LaFranconi's on my 02 Cal SS 12 years ago, sounded great, but many miles and many years and they are just too loud now. Set off car alarms just idling. Wish I would have held onto my bubs and other pipes I've sold over the years. Time for some new pipes now
