The value of an independant bike shop
« on: June 27, 2015, 08:06:07 PM »
Greetings All!

Took my rear tire to Stockton Moto (CA) to have a new tube (bought from Stockton Moto) and tire (bought from American Moto Tire) installed and have the rear brake disc (bought from Harpers) replaced.

I attempted to change the rear disc myself but 4 of the allen bolts were stripped out and decided that the shop could do it.

I have been using this shop for quite a number of years. It is a small place but Richard the mech is very good and has worked on all different types of bikes including Guzzi. He used to own one years ago.

When I picked up the rim I was told that Richard had a heck of a time removing the stripped bolts. Took about 2 hours to do whatever he did to remove them. As the labor rate was $70 and hour I was prepared for a good size bill.

Jim, the shop co-owner said that the total bill was $100.

Yes I am a loyal customer and basically use them for tire changes but I thought this was very nice of him to keep the bill down. I even offered another $20 but he said no...just $100 would do.

This is why I support the local guys.

So if your around the Stockton CA area give Stockton Moto a try. I've been very pleased with their service for many years.

Ride safe and often...

I love to hear reports like this!
When I did the rexxer reflash on my 2015 v7 there was no way of resetting the tps  after the flash with the rexxer but rexxer are working on it so I phoned my local dealer and these guys are the best I've ever dealt with.
I asked one of the owners would it be OK to get there tech to reset the tps for me after I did the flash at their shop and he said no worries mate.
Anyhow after he did the reset I asked how much it was? He said don't worry about it mate and I said are you sure as I feel I must owe you something and his reply was well mate just buy me a coffee.

Back in AZ, Eastside Performance was a shop like this. Owners are KZ fanatics, TJ and his awesome wife Pam  (I'm sure many here know them better than I) but they helped me out with my LM III and the since repealed AZ motorcycle emissions test standard    . Great folks.

Here in California there are so many good  bike shops like MGC, RTL Moto and others that I feel lucky. Real knowledge, in person. Mark at MGC and Sean Fader (has his own place now - RTL) have helped me out so many times and given advice that comes only with experience, cant even count the times.

Can't put a price on shops like that.
