SunTek, XPel, 3M -- anyone used paint protection film?
« on: June 23, 2015, 06:43:02 PM »
I got my Cal EV detailed yesterday; the detailer did a beautiful job.  While I was there I saw posters for SunTek transparent paint protection film and it got me to wondering.  Has any of you used a paint protection film?  Which one?  How was it?  And of course,

I put the 3M spray on my Stelvio tank.  You apply a "special" wax that is supplied in the kit, mask the area, and spray it on.  It initially looks like sheetrock texturing, but the next morning it was nice and smooth (except where I touched it).  I kept it on under a Wolfman tank bag for 10,000 miles and it has protected the paint just fine.  I will need to remove and replace it late this summer, but it seems to be easy to peel off.

There's a local place that uses 3m products to wrap cars. They also do detailing, headlight protection, etc. They do very nice work and are pretty high end, so I had them put clear protection on my CalVin's impact zones back when it was new. It was pretty much invisible and did the job. I also had them make a tank protector for my Triumph. Very pleased with the results.
