Oil, and where to get it
« on: June 26, 2015, 09:42:33 AM »
10W-60 I can find at Napa in 5L jugs.

The 80-90 and 85-140 stuff I can buy at my dealer for megabucks, OR... Canadian Tire carries their "MOTOMASTER" brand in both of these weights, for considerably less.

Can anyone tell me if these are sufficient? What is it that I should be checking on the labels?

Old enough to say I've done it, young enough to do it again.

You can get 10W60 oil lots of places, but if you want the Moto Guzzi specified oil, 10W-60 API SG, only eni (formerly AGIP) makes it, as far as I know.  You can get it on ebay or at AF1 Racing.

I won't repeat here why Moto Guzzi specifies API SG instead of the current SN grade, but I do believe it is important if you want your tappets to last.

Motorex makes the proper spec. API-SG. Available at dealers and if they don't have it, just ask them to carry it and then you'll have a local source.

Like shopping for food at Safeway, ask them to stock something and generally they will. Then when you need some, just go get it.

Motul makes a proper spec oil as well. Says so right on the label.
