V7 Fender Eliminator Kit
« on: June 23, 2015, 12:55:39 AM »
Hello, I'm looking for a fender eliminator kit for my 2013 V7 Racer. I've come across a couple that would do the job, but in my search I found one for a Triumph Thruxton that really had everything I was looking for (other than the fact it's not made for my bike). Does anyone know where to get a kit similar to the one below?

Things that I really like about this kit are that it has an integrated tail light, turn signals and license plate light. Also, I like the way that the LED design follows the contours of the seat cowl.

Any leads are much appreciated.

Thanks.

Have you tried contacting NRC to see if they can build one for you based on the Thruxton design?

Hi Robert, thanks for your suggestion. Hoping to find something already available, but if nothing exists I'll give that a shot.

There are a couple of fender eliminators available for a v7. I installed an MAS Engineering fender eliminator on my v7. There is another one for sale on ebay. You could also go with the reduced/ sleeker fenders that Guzzi is selling as part of its customization kits.

To be frank, I regret installing a fender eliminator on my bike. Too much back-splash on rainy rides. I am thinking of buying the Guzzi dark horse fender, but am a little annoyed that they cost $600+.

Let me know if you find anything.

Cheers,

Mike

I installed a Maund Speed FEK on my Thruxton. I agree about the extra splash while riding in the rain, but the Thruxton just BEGS to have its rear fender eliminated. It looks SO much better without it.

I think the V7 Racer also looks better without a rear fender. If I ever free up enough dough to buy another toy (the V7 Racer, that is), I'll rip off that rear fender and install something in its place. (I can always ride my Norge in the rain.)

Check the Triumph Rat forum for lots of good info on DIY FEKs, chopping stock rear fenders down to size, etc. Some of those ideas should work on the V7 Racer.

Hey, Matt, I make the one available on Ebay.  It started here, actually - I just made the one prototype, and posted my photos here.  Folks liked it, so I made a bunch more.  I would have like to have kept it Wildguzzi only but I guess Ebay is good at getting the word out!

Anyway, on Ebay it's $199, but don't go through that.  Email me privately, we can do $175 plus shipping.

Ben,

That is a great-looking FEK you have there! Well done!

Plus, I think we might be related somewhere back in the old country.

(PLUS ours are better made than the MAS Engineering part!)
(AND made in the USA)
(AND you can pick up the phone and call me)
(AND we donate to the forum)

(AND, damn those MAS parts are cool, I wouldn't blame you one bit for buying theirs instead!  Just picked up a couple of those rad head cover guards myself…)

:)

(Jeff: you may be right!  But you lost an 'e' somewhere on Ellis Island or something.  Or someone on my side just came home with an extra 'e' one day…)

Mike, thanks for the honesty about the rain. The more that I've been researching, this appears to be a big problem. I live in Oregon so I'm riding in the rain most of the year. Rethinking this whole idea. Maybe I'll put the money that I didn't have in the first place toward some new pipes instead.

Thanks again!

Hi Ben, thanks for the reply and the offer. Your kit looks great, however, I'm realizing that with having to ride in the rain most of the year, a FEK probably isn't the smartest move. If I ever move back down to Cali I'll definitely reconsider.

Take the non-existent money and invest in better suspension rather than pipes, especially front springs; unless you're one of those elusive set of riders whose weight is optimum for the OEM suspension.

I'm taking a wild-assed guess, but I bet those that take off the front fender for the look get sprayed with rain water too.

I, too, live in Oregon, and it does indeed rain here (except now, in the midst of an apocalyptic heat wave). I. too, ride  in the rain (year round).

When I first bought my Thruxton, I thought I would never install a FEK because of the rain. But then I realized that I do not stay clean and dry riding anything in the rain, regardless of fenders. I get thoroughly wet and dirty (at least my gear does). So, I went for it. The extra spray was, in relation to the regular spray, fairly minimal, and the appearance of the Thruxton was much better than stock. I was glad I did it. There is still some protection from the metal tray under the seat, as well as the license plate hanging down out back. Just make sure you seal the openings between the metal under-seat tray and the bike's frame to keep water from getting up under the seat.

Thanks for sharing your experience, Jeff. Now I'm torn!!

Dang, that looks like a good way to get rear ended in bad weather. I am looking at ways to add more lights to the rear of my bike.
