2013 Norge intermittent problem w/ windshield.

Has anyone had this problem? 8v, 2013 Norge. Windshield buttons work fine most of the time, but periodically nothing happens when either button is pushed. Riding or sitting still makes no difference. Bike has 4k miles on it. Garage kept, only been ridden in rain 1 time. I can hear a click when I push either button, so it sounds like the buttons and relay are working. I removed the windshield and inspected the linkage, and connections. All looks fine. When the problem occurs, I can usually get it working again after several pushes of the buttons. A couple of times I just left it then tried later and it worked fine. Thanks, Dave.

On my 07 there is a cover over the operating mechanism.  Have to remove windshield then the cover.  Maybe yours is similiar.  Could be something hanging up.

Mark the high and low positions. Operate the windshield but do not move it to highest or lowest position. If it seems to work all the time that way, the likely problem is a stop limit switch.

Several pushed of the buttons sounds like a stop limit switch. They can go out of position.

If the bike is still in warranty, let them figure it out. Even if you can't get to the dealer right away, document and report the problem, the warranty then covers if so long as you get the bike in within a reasonable time.

Can you hear any noises when you press the button and it does not work?
Some people have had the screw drive slip on the motor shaft causing odd behavior.

Thanks guys. Norge Pilot, I think you might have the answer. If I'm remembering correctly, when it malfunctions it's either in the full down or full up positions. I'll play with it a bit and make sure.

I usually set my windshield height and leave it alone. Once in a while I lower it and realize I don't like all the wind on my face.

I do the same thing probably because this is the first bike I've  had that has an electrically adjustable windscreen.

I do like the idea though. Makes me wonder if given the design if a greater angle adjustment wouldn't  be a lot better than raising or lowering it.

The windscreen shakes quite a bit, I didn't realize how much until I looked at the bike cam video, you can see the windscreen making a wave motion along it's edge from top to bottom. The windscreen is tight, I think it has to do with the attack angles. Bet there is a high degree of stress on it and perhaps adjusting it while in motion knocks things out of kilter. Maybe that is why MG located the buttons to raise and lower it the way they did, they want you to be stopped while adjusting it.

The newer Norge's must have the control buttons in a different place. My two 07's were easily accessible while riding, and I never noticed any vibrating in the windscreen on either. I leave it down all the time unless it's raining hard.

I really like the adjustability. I am using a medium Cal/Sci screen. I leave it near all the way up at highway speeds but almost always go to the bottom when going through towns and cities. I move mine around quite a bit. So far so good.

Nope, as evidenced by the fact that nothing else in the view is shaking. You can see it in the video when the bike is at idle and not moving.

A windscreen mounted the way it is on the Norge is going to vibrate, no two ways about it. It isn't something you can just look at and see.

If you have doubts, try it first, you'll see. When everything else is clear and only the windshield is moving, it's the camera? Not a chance.

Before this goes off on some tangent about screen vibration, I'm pointing out that the screen can be as it should be and it will still vibrate from air pressure hitting it and the screen resisting that movement. The screen isn't held  all along the edge and the same phenomenon is true of anything held in position on one end and free on the other and then pushed through the air at speed. There is a lot of pressure on the screen at speed as anyone who has held up their hand in the air stream knows.

The point is that anything like the screen in the air stream is going to vibrate, as do helmets except we call it buffeting. That has the effect to cause things to fatigue, as anyone who pilots airplanes.  The mounts and gear of the windshield can go out of adjustment and then you have problems raising and lowering it.
