LeMans 1000 comfort
« on: July 04, 2015, 11:17:57 AM »
Anyone done much two-up on a Lm IV or V? Primarily interested in passenger comfort. Secondly, is it possible to replace the clip-ons with a handle bar or install bar risers or swan necks?
Thanks,
Steve

Thanks John!! Can you tell me more about your set-up? That's a LM 3 right? The prettiest Guzzi ever in my book.

The PO of my V7Sport put on a Vetter fairing and pull-backs.     I got rid of all of that.

I always found the MkIV/V models horribly uncomfortable. Certainly the clip-ons didn't help but I've never been a fan of clip-ons. The upswept tail also means that if you're carrying a passenger they tend to slide forward into you.

At the end of the day though this stuff is all very subjective. Oh, and the seat itself is a frictionless plank!

everyone's different. Dorcia was pretty comfortable on the back of the LM 5.

Clip ons are pretty high on the LeMans 4 & 5.. I never thought I would need higher bars on mine. It was a very comfortable ride for rider and passenger.

The Corbin seat that's available for the four and five would probably be a good addition if you plan on lots of two up riding

The LeMans 4/5 has a taller steering neck than the earlier bikes, by almost 2 inches. So the clipons start out at a higher level than a Lemans 3. I rode my Lemans 5 some 500 mile days and never had trouble with the stock clipons. The stock seat fit me better than a Corbin, but I rarely had a passenger.  Maybe I'm just lucky to be shaped as the designers figured all Guzzi riders should be?

I never found the 5 a problem with long distance.  Never had a passenger for any distance so can't answer for that.  Since the 4 is the same as a 5....ditto.

I think much of whether the bike will be comfortable depends on your age and physical condition.  What was comfortable for me when I was much younger I could no longer do for anything longer than 15 minutes.  Lower handlebars, a good cushioned seat and foot position get me close to comfortable - and even then many seats some feel comfortable, many others think are planks.  This stuff is very subjective and differs greatly from butt to butt, knee angle and bent of your head/neck.

I have found mine to be very comfortable.  The riding position keeps me young.  I've adjusted the right handle bar for my right arm and the left for  the  left.  :thumb: Several 700 mile back to back days. The down side is the 200 mile range. Marion has camped out on back of the Ducati, SP and k75 for several 500 mile days.  But 2 or 3 hours on the LeMans or the LS and she wants off.  :thewife:

My LMIV with Corbin seat was super comfortable for me but not sure about the Pillion. With a good seat I don't expect it would be much different than most standards or sport touring type bikes.

I found the riding position to be with stock clip-ons to be just about ideal. In combination with the stock fairing it was a great for long high speed cruises.

I'm 57, 6'1" and no longer svelte.  The LeMans IV is a fantastic sport tourer.  This pic is from a 600+ mile day before I purchased a Corbin seat from a forum member.  Now it's even better!

Two up is going to depend a lot on your passenger's physical condition and how much they love you.  Not much padding, no backrest, and relatively high rear pegs.
