Well ,I got a high bid of $5900. Far below what I thought I would get.I sucked it up and called the guy to arrange the shipping and paying details. I get no calls for a day. Then this morning I get a email asking me to cancel the sale because he did not realize how much it would cost to ship it.I cancelled the sale through eBay and I wonder what my final fees will be.I don't think I will sell on eBay again. It is in no way like a real auction.

if you cancel thru ebay and tell them winner backed out, they will not charge you

Actually you did pretty well on the price- at least 30% of the cost of an equivalent new tractor for a couple decades old one is pretty good, even if it is painted green. But you found the usual FleaBay hassle... people bid on stuff without realizing that they can't get a ton or so of tractor shipped across the country for $100.

John Deere 755. 1750 pounds, 3 cylinder diesel, 20 HP. MSRP $15K in 1999.

Would be about like shipping a small car, and that's easy to look up.

Folks shouldn't be surprised! Sounds like a good deal for someone ...

I have a Ford 8N, the rear tires are about toast with cracks from age and one leaks. I thought I would get another wheel and tire (comes with tube), LOL, $575.

Nice Ford 8N in Iowa for $1800, with two new rears, came close to buying it and borrowing a trailer to go get it. Tires and wheels are worth over $1000.

There are SO many Ford "N" variants still out there, as well as the Ferguson 20/35/50 series, that they won't be worth much more than $2000 as complete tractors in our lifetimes. Maybe parts is the right idea ...

If you decide you want to change the tires yourself, I can point you to a slide hammer bead breaker that works great. Other than the weight and draining/filling the antifreeze, it's no harder to do than a car tire.

My wheels are banged up pretty bad, I was going to get new wheels also, just 6 bolts holding them to the disc. I only paid $1700 for the tractor several years ago, put new sleeves and pistons, repaired indent in transmission for proper shifting, running great every since.

I had already drained most of the fluid in them. I only use it for some garden work and bushhoging on 2 acres.

Course I did put 86 Toyota transister ignition on it, still uses stock points but they never wear out now. Also 12V alternator from junk yard also. Don't have to clean and reset the points every 6 months now.

You should see the rear wheels on my '62 Ford 4000. I've beaten them straight and welded in many patches to repair dents and rust holes. Apparently a previous owner used salt for antifreeze, and had leaky tubes. I got my 4000 for $1,800 from a neighbor about 15 years ago. I figure with the light use I give it, it shouldn't need much in my lifetime.

Sorry to hear about your bad bidder.I looked at your item in completed auctions. $5900 for a two wheel drive tractor like that is silly money.. Sounds like buyer remorse....Bidding on Ebay is a legal binding contract...but not worth the hassle to go after the high bidder.Maybe you need to sell local...

I just called eBay again and got the best rep.so far.She said because I was a newby she would credit my account $70 so the final fee is only $25.She said that there is no real penalty to non payers, but ebay keeps records and the bad people may have listings curtailed.It has been a learning experience.

The bad people with curtailed listings are you, the seller. The buyer doesn't list anything, so he's not being curtailed. The rep was warning you that if it happens again you're going on a list.

is the $25 a final value fee, or the fee to list in the first place?

The tractor did not sell so there was no fvf. However there was a $100 reserve fee that they waived.

Second highest bidder called me and said he would give me $5200,even though he bid $5800. He said he would not have had to bid so high if the deadbeat high bidder had not forced him to.I ended up offering it to a local guy who knows my stuff for $5900. He took the deal.The irony of the whole story is he going to pick it up with a 12000capy. aluminum trailer that I made 25 yrs ago and sold to his dad about a year ago.Contrary to what some of the famously cheap Guzzi owners here have said,It was a steal.Of course I am also one the Guzzi owners.
