How long and far can you ride your lemans1?
« on: July 23, 2015, 07:20:37 PM »
The furthest I've ridden with mine is only 150 miles, and that was when I first drove it home. I can't remember if it was an easy ride or not.   Just wondering if this is a bike that can be ridden long distances while retaining some form of comfort. I know it's a vague question, as everybody is different and has different riding styles

743 miles in one day. Quite a few 600 milers.

Yes, that would be yours-a fantastic sport tourer, 200+ mile range. On the long rides I ran through a tank for each stint.

Our trip was freaking fantastic, I wish we were still on it. Three weeks on the road were not enough, especially out west.

If you take the LM out there, make sure to stop at places that offer hot springs and a good massage!

Less and less every year!

It all comes down to how young and fit you are.  I did a 650 mile day on my LM3 with clip ons in my early 30s.  I went to a tube bar over 10 years ago.  At 52 y/o I'm happy to ride for about 3 hours.  Maybe I need to start lifting weights again.  My 3 is way more cool than it is comfortable.

I think a far more entertaining question would be, "how far would you Lemans I owners let ME ride your bike" I haven't had the pleasure, thought I'd try  :thumb:

The 1 really needs rearsets from stock. The 3 and up are fantastic as is.

Motorcycle travel is a bit tiring, on the Scouts our longest day has been 557. No shields make it nicer but a bit wearing.

600 on the Sport 1100 is my longest on the current Guzzi, about as long as our 2 up Jackal day with a shield.

Other interesting points-in travel with a GSXR 1000 on that longest day, we got identical fuel mileage, averaging in the range of 45 to 48. Our odometers matched too!

The GSXR was obviously insanely faster. We had to get a bottle of gas for a fellow rider in Buena Vista, VA, and the Suzuki rider was carrying a Clorox bottle of fuel in his lap as we climbed back to the BRP-an R1 went blasting by, I couldn't do much but my friend chased him down, then realized he had the gas bottle floating around in his lap.

In the rain, I was able to ride comfortably faster than the GSXR, due to the probability of wheelspin on the Suzuki.

1200 miles in just over 24 hours on my LeMansIV. I was barely into my 40's then.

Don't have a LM1 but in my younger days I did ride my CX100 with clip-ons from Kansas City to Salt Lake City, Utah. The thought of being "comfortable" on a motorbike never crossed my mind back then. I can still ride a tank of gas through her w/o stopping. Multiple tanks? Maybe<shrug>

I rode the CX about 1,400 miles to the national in NH. The Lemans I fairing does fairly well but the original CX fairing is much better for that type of riding.

The longest one day ride on my LeMans 1 was from Chicago to Mid Ohio race course about 350 miles. The bike had a Corbin seat and rear sets and I was in my early 40s. I did do about a 450 mile weekend on a V7 Sport last year, though the Sport is a little more comfortable than the LM!
I found an old picture...

I went to Corbin in Daytona for a new seat for my LeMansIV. The salesman said I'd be able to ride further in a day with the new saddle than I could with the old saddle. I replied "that's improbable with out running go to jail speeds". He looked at me funny, then I explained the trip I just took, with the 1200 miles in about 24 hours.

The new seat was much better because the seat pan was rigid.

Did San Francisco to Seattle in 1 day on my CX100 ( cant recall actual mileage). That was with a R90S type handlebar and a Giuliari  humpback seat.  Of course that was approx 30 years ago...Still haven't figured out the problem some folks have with the  stock foot pegs , 'cause , at 5' 7" , LM1/2/CX100/SP pegs have always been fine  for me for all round riding...

Less and less every year!

Ditto. I have put a number of 500 mile days together but that was a few years ago. That was after I switched to a Corbin Gunfighter. With the stock suppository it would take less than 100 miles before I would start squirming around.

84 LM3  often Rallies one way 5-650mi from IL to KS or WV, PA,OH. Just 9yrs ago back & forth to GA. 850mi one way. Stock seat w/sheepskin rolled. Crashed w/over 50K hard touring mi on it. My favorite Guzzi fits me. Since I got married not too many distant rallies.

Back in 2010 I used to ride the LM III between Los Angeles and Phoenix pretty regularly and take longer routes to avoid freeways and boredom. Longest day was someplace north of 500 miles. I've never owned a truly comfortable motorcycle (as in true touring comfort) but I'll admit a 500 mile day doesn't feel very good on the LM. A 250 mile ride feels about perfect though.

Wow,

My wrists give up before my ass on my LM1, and that is after about 1 hour, then need a break the off again.

The Norwaytrip was with a full tankbag.
I could lean on it.

The Blue one with original rearset was a hell to drive, till i bought an ago set
